7A Conversion....

Hi i've not been on this forum for a few years now, used to have a Glanza, but that got written off by a non insured pleb :(

Back on the forum now with a new project. Now got a white EP91 NA, done the basics like coilovers and brakes, now in hunt for more power.

Even though doing the 4EFTE conversion would be alot easier and have more gains, i've decided to attempt to do the 7AFE transplant.

If all goes well with the conversion, will be searching for the 4AGE cylinder head to get afew more ponies. Then in future (far far away), i will look into forging the 7AGE.

Anyone got any tips or advice before i start this conversion ?

Glad to be back :)

doupt its a lot of work, only need to change cam belt side mounting

It will require a fair amount of work. You can use the Starlet gearbox mount once you drill and tap the C56 gearbox, but you will need to cut out four inches from the driver's side frame. Take a look at this:

The 7A rods are like putty therefore if you plan to go turbo you will need a set of forged rods which cost USD 390.00 from www.technotoytuning.com You will need a timing belt from a Porsche 944 and a pair of adjustable cam gears to properly time the standard cams. You will need to move the driver's side engine mount bracket forward or fabricate an "L" shaped bracket that will bolt to the driver's side mount and onto the 7A timing belt side bracket. You can use the Starlet axles.

If you have deep pockets take a look at this: http://www.speedracersportscars.com.au/
The 7A with the 4AG cylinder in standard NA form is a very torquey engine although only revving to 7800RPM.

A series fits AE82 with little problems
cutting the frame at that section is madness!
only good thing from this conversion is that you get more spares for a A series

To fit the 4A/7A engine to the Starlet/Tercel/Corsa/Cynos/Paseo engine bay if the driver's side frame rail is not cut you need to cut the passenger side frame rail.

I think you could match the power produced by the 7AGTE engine with a well tuned 4E/5EFTE. A lad here ran this engine in a FWD Corolla twin cam and got 280 bhp with very basic management, there is more in them I know but over 300 bhp in the 4E is not uncommon now.

Each to their own, I just wonder is it worth the effort?

I'm not into chasing figures anymore, my last Starlet was a forged 4E with a hybrid TD05 20g. Was a very quick car but want something different this time. Always loved the 4AGE so thats why im doing this, wont be big power but will put a smile on my little face 8)

ive always wanted to turbo a 7a engine and pop in into my starlet but the thought of ecu wiring, piping, tranny issues and mounting led me to drop off the project. now im into a 5e conversion.
anyway would love to see how bulletooth's project turns out. keep us posted! :) best of luck!
