So all we really need is some proper connections from the - terminal to any grounding points in the bay? Will this make much of a difference even to a pretty standard Starlet?

Just tried to start it again and now its not even making the clicking noise. That seems like the battery has been drained somehow?

Its not my pic, I think the starter would be the least of my worries if it was!! Yeah it was sluggish to turn over in the last month but would always fire first time. Does this mean it is the alternator instead?

Is this the thing, just above the engine block to the right of the alternator?

Just had a look but couldn't see it. I looked near the inlet manifold but couldn't see it, saw the alternator. Is it near that? Doesn't help when its pissing it down and blowing a gale! Does anyone have a dummy's picture of where its located? Sorry I'm shit, I know!

Yeah I bump started it, rolled it 2nd and lifted the clutch. Whereabouts is the starter motor located in the engine bay?

No unfortunately nobody has one. I have bump started it no problem as its parked on a slight hill, given it a good run about 1pm today. When I parked it up I turned off, started it again and it worked. Tried again at 5pm and same old click click click! Thanks for your help

No I haven't checked its voltage, I will take it to a garage tomorrow and have them check it. If water had got to the battery could that have possibly killed it?

When it makes the clicking noise its a fast repeated series of clicks if that makes a difference?

I bought a battery charger and plugged it into the battery, it took literally 2 minutes to fully charge the battery. Surely this would also mean that there isn't a problem with the alternator as the battery was nearly fully charged. All electrics work fine when the car is off.

Realised I haven't checked the distributor cap yet? How do I remove this? Also where are the earthing points to check? Thanks in advance
