Code 42 speed sensor

Hi all,

My engine management light came on today and code 42 speed sensor was displayed. my speedo isnt working at the moment so i know thats the problem. The question is would this alter the cars performance? seems down on power.

Yes, the speedo cable mechanically takes the speed to the instrument cluster and the cluster sends a signal to the ECU to tell it what speed you are doing. It uses that to adjust the map so if there's no input it has to use a default value and that might explain the difference in performance.

Thanks for the response, its just as i thought. Are the speedo drives and cables the same on the glanzas and non turbo variants?

Yes, you should be able to grab a UK-spec one for handiness.
