Ive got a aem fic 6 and says it can only retard timing is there any point in wiring that part of it up as surely want to advance timing to aid spool?

ive taken the head off and is there any way of telling if the ringlands are gone without taking the piston out i.e piston float or visible damage as everything looks spot on from the top and the bore is perfect but had low compression in cyl 1 and 2 think it might just be the headgasket
