    Earth cable

Glad you got it started at least, one step forward and all that. Noise and smoke means something is hitting something. I've had horrendous trouble with aftermarket clutches and flywheels in the past (namely Competition clutches). That box will probably have to come off again so as you can...

    4E-FTE Pistons wanted. OEM

Just checked and the only set I have has a bit of wear. Wouldn't be confident enough to sell them to someone who isn't local. Can be a hard thing to buy online due to the risks involved.

Also check you haven't put paint on the earthing surface of the gearbox casing. Can't see it being the issue but you never know. Box looks well in blue!

    Earth cable

Only thing I can see is that the gearbox earth pic you posted looks like it's connected to the bracket and not the body. It should bolt to the chassis leg from memory. (Excuse the dodgy red scribble)

That inlet earth looks similar to the 4efte version. On a 10mm bolt just.

No on the GT thermostat there's the green connector plus two spade connectors. If you mix the two single wires up you get a crazy temp gauge. Thought it might be relevant but the 4efe wiring might differ.

    Earth cable

Theres also an earth on the inlet manifold, usually connects to the drivers side of it onto the idle stabilisation valve. That can cause issues if not 100%. It's part of the loom on a 4efte so I'm not sure where it is on a 4efe.

Check the thermostat wiring just in case the spade connector is on the incorrect sensor. I've done that before.

Pint for scale. DS engine mount earth. PS Gearbox earth. Battery earth straps. :p

    Earth cable

From your description, probably the earth from the top of the drivers side engine mount to the strut turret. There is also one on the top of the gearbox to the chassis rail on the passenger side that's similar.

Not even reading that. Good night and good luck.

    Help with a rebuild

Yeah, springs are the difference between turbo and non-turbo heads. If you use the 4EFTE head you should get it checked for flatness then 'blueprint' the inlet/outlet ports to suit in order to keep the flow at a maximum. Don't bother smoothing the inlets as they need turbulence to get the air...

    Help with a rebuild

As you already know, the piston tops are dished on the turbo bottom end to lower compression so you could just change those if you wanted to replicate the 4EFTE. There shouldn't be any hassle with the transmission, the engines are pretty much the same until you get to the flywheel. Worth...

Where is the vacuum pump in a Starlet Glanza/GT?

Well thats the rack attacked this morning. Pics attached for reference. Looks like you could theoretically swap it for a corolla version but you would need both on the bench in front of you to be 100%

Where is the vacuum pump in a Starlet Glanza/GT?

Only retrieved the rack from the container today, I'll be draining it at the weekend to remove the pipework so I can unbolt this union to investigate. Will update with pics.

Where is the vacuum pump in a Starlet Glanza/GT?

Just for reference, I think this is from a glanza.

Where is the vacuum pump in a Starlet Glanza/GT?

I think I understand. The corolla pump has issues fitting to the 4efte, I've sourced a few bits for @aubreygil there today. Brackets shouldn't be an issue but you'd probably need the same hoses and bottle that he needed?

Where is the vacuum pump in a Starlet Glanza/GT?

I'm not 100% on how the whole set up works, will need to do a bit of reading on the subject before advising. As far as tapping into the rack without removal, you would need to be sure you aren't going to introduce any swarth/metal filings into the rack itself. Don't think it would be a huge...

    Speedo cable removal?

I've had to resort to using vice grips on them before, they can get seized on there quite handy.
