15" wheels, opinions on tyre size

As above, I am going to be purchasing myself a set of lovely white 15" Rota grids in the not to distant future.

What tyre size would people recommend??? should i go for 195/50/15 or go for 195/45/15?????

Im unsure, guessing 195/50/15 would be better? any1 correct me?

i use 195/50/15........great ride..and can handle SOME bumps if they sneak up on u.....the 45 series may not be so good if your roads aint too smooth........result dent rims and busted tires more easily ........but if u mostly take highways the 45 series is ok

205 50 15 i need the extra grip though:p 45 would have less give in the tyes wall so will be better for the corners

with the right offset......he should not have to worry too much about the tires hitting the fenders.....this is assuming that IF the car is lowered, it also has an adjustable pan hard rod on the rear

damage to the rims isn't really an issue. my mum's BMW M3 has 35's on the back, and i doubt BMW would use them if they were goin to damage the rims. obviously don't go off roading :p 50's will offer more road comfort and better off the line grip on a drag strip. 45's will offer more cornering stability with ride comfort compromised

195/45R15 would in theory be the proper size, but most (inc me) opt for 195/50R15.

Cost wise, the same tyres in 195/45R15 are often about 30-50% more then 195/50R15!!!! As people have said you will have more rim protection, and a slightly better right. You may get rubbing though if your car is lowered/carrying weight, but again as said, the offset will also affect this.

The bmw might have 35 profile but then its probably on 255+ wide tyres so will still have a reasonable size sidewall!

Cheers for the input guys, think im gonna settle on 195/50/15

The roads around me are shite, so would welcome the added bit of comfort in the ride.

Plus the extra bit of grip when dragging can never be a bad thing
