5EFHE turbo starlet

Hi Gorgan.

Thanks for the reply. A shim plate is basically a thick metal plate used as a gasket. And its not just 5e but 5efhe(higher comp pistons) that are in there. Also I plan on going to 1 bar boost with td04l turbo. I will be getting it tuned by a very reliable tuner who knows what he is doing. Id just like to know what would the best or near best cr I should have and how could I calulate the cr

yes, i'm speaking specifically of 5efhe pistons in a 4efte in this case with the thicker gt rods, running a td04l to be exact between 14/20psi on crap pump gas (BUT well tuned for it)
5mm is way too thick, it will kill your compression
back in the day when some people did it the crude way, the most i've heard used was 2 stock headgaskets together, which would sum about 2.0-2.4mm thick depending on what reference source you find.

Thank you so much for the advice looks like ill be skimming the plate down now.

if your can get a proper tune and have decent pump gas, i'd suggest using the genuine/oem 4efte head-gasket------------i repeat, NO non-genuine head-gasket

Just to reinforce the difference between 5efe and 5efhe Rods here's a comparison pic.

Ok so turns out 1 of my rods were bent and the others were tampered with by the person who i had purchased the engine from. So now i ended up getting a set of 4efte rods and pistons back into the motor with the oem gasket.Just awaiting the tune, will keep you guys posted. Stupid guys over drilled the holes were the gudgin pin sits so couldn't use the 5efhe pistons. Such a shame pistons were like new, not even a spec of carbon build up on them.

aren't the gudgeon pins for the 4efte and 5efhe pistons the same size?

5Efhe with 4efe pistons controlled with a Megasquirt 3, 550cc Evo injectors, Epman 255lph pump. GT2871r turbo....Car drives everyday. No overheating. Pretty reserved ignition table. Waiting to be tuned after Rally Barbados.

They are, but the guys that i have purchased the engine from messed it up by drilling(honing) the holes too big and off shape, so didnt want to take the risk of running those piston.

Car is now running fine road mapped but limited at 3500rpm. Going to send it for a proper tune now as i have completed the 1000km running in period.

Ford Fiesta RS Turbo plugs I was told to use by a lot of experienced Starlet folk, I did and no issues at all plus they are silly cheap, 17£ delivered from Demon tweeks :)

i'd be honest with you, i'd just buy some simple ngk copper plugs...bkr5e, bkr6e, bkr7e, bkr8e depending on the level of you mods and type of car (turbo vs n/a)
they are cheap and work great

with respect to the turbo ep82/91, then 7e and 8e plugs are relatively cold plugs and better suited for highly modded cars
stock to mildly modded is probably 6e,,,,then 7e when you start to get up there in mods and power level

i used to buy expensive platinum and iridium plugs, not worth it imo,,,,,,,,just buy the cheaper ngk copper plugs and change them accordingly

What would you suggest for a stock 4efte on a td04l turbo running just over a bar of boost. 550cc injectors fmic stand alone ecu?

i'd say find out what is in the car at the moment, and replace with the same (or matching heat range if using a different brand), as that's what your car is tuned on presently

if you need to run a colder plug and your mods expand, its best to ask the tuner for input as you go along
