BHP and WHP Figures

When on the rollers is there anything different that is done to take BHP and WHP. I have only ever been to one place and they slowly build up the gears to 4th and then at a certain rev speed, (2000 i think) put their foot down until the reading on their dials don't go any higher. I always thought this was taking WHP but not 100% now.

Can anyone clarify?

It is then flywheel horsepower is calculated after matey.

most dyno places display the fly HP though when rolling to try and impress lol.

On a roller dyno the power is measured at the wheels and the flywheel power is just calculated. The only way that you can REALLY measure the power at the flywheel is on an engine dyno. At the wheels power on a roller dyno is the best way to measure because thats exactly the power that your putting down on the road when your driving

What would be the correct transmission losses for a manual starlet? You get some people that get a massive figure at the fly when compared to their whp and you know that it is simply the tuners/dyno operators just trying to please the customer :freddy:

whp is the best indicator of a cars power. Would i be right in thinking that around 15% would be an ideal estimate of transmission losses for a starlet?

Ah right cool, ive seen some figures that would suggest over 20% transmission losses on a starbo which is obviously a mile out lol
