calling all computer experts

Looking for some advice,

Earlier when just browsing bebo and this site my norton security flashed up as unsecure and turned off. It also said my updates were well out of date.

I did a history check on norton and apart from the scans the thing that stood out todat was "firewall rules were automatically created for file transfer" under the file program c:\\WINDOWS\system32.ftp and inbound traffic tcp 1507

now all this is well chinese to me. So i turned my computer off and on again and it seem ok so i did a scan to see if it would bring anything up and the scan came back ok.

can anyone shed any light on this situation as iam nervous of viruses

thanks

chris

Hi bud,

Im afraid you have a Trojan/Worm on your PC which connects via IRC and awaits remote commands from an attacker.

Please read here and it tell you how to remove it, its a fairly low risk Trojan/Worm.

Just what i was thinking... if u dont want to use symantek have a go at AVG, its free & a fantastic bit of anti virus :)

Also AVAST AV is great, and free too! Does not slow your machine down either :)

I run avast on all my machines, its a great program! not a system hog either like norton!

It will do live scanning on everything, but as is the trend, pop up's on internet sites stating that your machine is out of date/unsecure are more menacing than ever.

If you install avast, or any other good AV software, your safe in the knowledge that your system is secure, so dont click them.

For example, if your anti virus program says the system is secure, and your internet browser tells you other wise, it's a scam!

Your browser cannot scan your system in the mili seconds it takes to throw a pop up on your screen.

get a good pop up blocker for your browser, and even if it says your house will burn down if you don't click here........

dont click it!

one thing everyone needs coming from a bit of a geek haha is Spybot S&D its a free program and is one of the best tools you could ever get fro removing spyware/adware & trojans

a good site to visit for any specialist removal tools (ones that others cant seem to remove) is www . astalavista . com dont worry if ie or firefox or any other program flags it as unsafe as its no risk at all it gets flagged bcos its a hacking and security site with lots of specialist tools on there really good in my opinion

personally use either avast or avg(my personal pref) combined with zone alarm & spybot you can get free versions of all of em.

p.s.
Norton is pants anyways haha

I'd remove norton, it's shite!

I use AVG without the safe surf / search option installed and spybot with monitors for bad processes. Both completely free

Trial ran AVG,AVAST,Malwarebytes and Kaspersky 2010 in a sandbox and downloaded a known trojan as a test.

They all picked it up but AVG failed to block it before it got a hold on the virtual system,so my money is and has been Avast for free AV coupled with M.Bytes or Kaspersky (best IMO) with malwarebytes.
