Camera Recommendations

Hi guys,

I'm looking in to buying a digital camera this week on a BUDGET! And quite a low one.

I was looking at something with around 7mp and for it to be a recognised make and not some cheap copy. How much am I looking at for a half decent one? Sony Fudji etc.

Any links or recommendations would be great. :)

only recomendation I could do is to stick with Canon/Nikon/sony as you cannot go wrong.
just take the one with lower pixel specs, 6mp is way enough for a pocket digital as it got tiny lens only... then give attention to camera materials finish.

Fuji have some good budget cameras.

Although its best to save a small amount & get a camera with a little more MP, that way your set for a little while.

true Lio... suppose it would be good if you told us your budget Idrees. The Nikon D40 can be picked up very cheaply second hand and would be a fantastic buy for you.

Wouldnt pay too much attention to MP figures to be honest.

Whats your max budget Idrees?

I have the Fujifine Pix S5800 which cost £97 and is as good as a fair few DSLRs on the market.

One thing I would recommend regardless of what camera you buy is buy a tripod (they cost about £20) and ditch using a flash. When photographing anything still where light is limited it makes a massive difference!

As mentioned above, megapixles dont mean much when you have a large, well made lense. Thats whats gonna get a decent quality image not the number of pixels you can cram into it. :)

Thanks for all in the input guys. I've found that £60 might just be too small a budget, so I'm going to wait till I get some more funds to the side and buy a decent one in one shot instead of buying cheap and buying twice. :) Pav I'll look in to that one because I've seen your pics and they are awesome.

Thanks man that means a lot. That camera really got me into photography even though I'm an amature! :haha:

About the do it cheap do it twice thing, thats bang on. Save a bit more and you wont regret it one bit. I dont think you'll find a much better camera than the S5800 at £100 though, they are ridiculously cheap for what they can do!

As azerty says, if you choose one from the Canon/Nikon/Sony/Fuji range, you should be fine. I use (although a new camera is being debated at present) a Sony DSC-P12 (max 5mp, but I only ever use 3.1mp), and have always been impressed with it. Cheap as chips on eBay second-hand too.

I think my old one was an s4000 and it was great. My girlfriend has a 10mp ultra compact fuji camera and it is also great.

One thing I would recommend steering clear of is anything that forces you to use a proprietary connection or memory card. Not sure about the new sony cams but the old ones used memory stick duo which is a pain in the arse and they used docking stations which are also a pain in the arse as you had to install sony software to get them to work. The fuji cameras use mini usb so plug any mini usb cable in and off you go!

My Nikon uses full size SD cards which is great.. pop it out and plug it straight into my laptop.

I have been trying lumix camera, wich I found nice.
they have Leica lens wich is a lengendary manufactory that does amazing lens. on the other side, it seems Panasonic sensors don't have best reviews (at least opinions differs)
