Here's a link I found on another forum. It's for an online utility that tests your machine and compares it to the minimum/recommended spec for a given game, telling you if your PC meets the required spec and what it fails on. You need to install an ActiveX control, but it's safe and doesn't use or publish any private information.
Can You Run It?
Give it a whirl. My PC only fails on 1 thing for the recommended spec for CoD4, and that is processor clock speed. The required level is 2.4Ghz, mine is 2.31, but it doesn't take into account that it's a dual core chip
