Cleaning the block and head

What can i used the clean the block and head, im presuming its not a good idea to shot blast it all??

good old engine degreeser and wire brush seems the best idea but will take days!

you can put some of that acid stuff on it that cleans up alloy!? that should do the trick as long as your careful

dont have a steam cleaner but i do have a pressure wash, dont want to damage anything though.

only the head is alloy but yea that could work would it damage the valve or anything?

^^^^ Just don't go anywhere near those bores with the wirebrush! And whilst the engine's apart, may be a good idea if you have some money to get some work to it...have a bit of a go with a Dremel on the head, and get the block cross-honed or there's a specifc type of media blastic for the bore that achieves the same effect as cross-honing

one of those little wire brush attachments for a drill......


then one of the little mini mop attachments and some polish..

all available at B&Q or such places.....:)

good point also,

what paint do people use on the blocks too? i just want it black jsut household radiator paint?

the wire brush is surprisingly rapid at removing all the shit....

the mop tool takes a while, but at the end of the day the effort will speak for itself!

you can get quite big versions of those drill bits, ill have to go take alook in the shops. ill try the jet wash 1st lol.

my mate swears by maguires engine cleaner. his oil filter on relocation kit shattered and sprayed oil all over the place. said the stuff was amazing and took it straight off

good detergent like swarfega or pressure wash do it all the time never had a problem with it. also any high temperature paint or hammerite should do halfords is ur best bet
