Do I have to have EMB wired in to the car loom before I can connect it to a laptop???

As above really,

Atm im trying to read the unit on my PC before I wire it all in.

I have a USB serial RS232 with FTDI chipset to connect it to the Greedy COMS cable, and have the correct drivers installed for it.

The Greddy program works, but comes up saying offline, and well true to their word, it is.

Is this because its not wire in to the car loom or is there another reason?

Also I'm running 7pro but had the Greddy program running in compat mode to start off with to actually see the program.

Any ideas??

Ah I see...

I was under the impression that it could have been powered off the cable, much like alot of devices.
