For those that don't know I'm in the RAF, posted to Cyprus and own a Glanza V which I plan on bringing back with me when I'm posted to the UK. A couple of questions, will mods be a hassle with the SVA test and I've heard mutterings about model reports. My Glanza is a 1999 model and I've heard there isn't a model report, what does that mean?

Any advice would be good, cheers guys,
Hutch.

It'll explain model reports and what do do if one isn't available? What does the DVLA have to do with the SVA test?

You just made my day mate! Anyone got any idea about mods thru the SVA? I tried looking thru the DVLA site as suggested but no joy.

Pretty sure a car has to be standard to go through an SVA.....i.e. all mods have to be taken off then put back on after the test.

That would be a pain in the tits. Any guys on here imported a modded Glanza before? It'd be great to hear from you if you have.

Yep! Basically, if you've owned it over a year, it'll qualify as a 'Personal Import'. Look that up...

Took me 5 seconds on Google (searching for 'Personal Import') to get to this...

Standard SVA will apply only for the following main categories of imported vehicle

1: Any "personally imported" vehicle as defined below

What is a Personal Import?

With effect from 1 February 2001 you are a personal importer only

a. if the vehicle has been imported by a person entering the United Kingdom;
b. that person had, at the time the vehicle was imported, been normally resident in a country other
than the United Kingdom for a continuous period of at least 12 months;
c. that person intends to become normally resident in the United Kingdom;
d. the vehicle has been in the possession of that person and used by him in the country where he has
been normally resident for a period of at least 6 months before its importation; and
e. the vehicle is intended for his personal or household use in the United Kingdom.

What the applicant will need to produce as evidence of meeting the above criteria:

1a. Outside the EC C+E 388 as proof of 12-month continuous residence. (No other custom forms
will be accepted as a substitute for this).
1b. Inside the EC documents such as household bills will be accepted as evidence but they must
cover the 12-month period.

or

2. ownership document or Registration document plus insurance document or service invoices for the
vehicle covering the 6-month period. NB the European Community countries are: Austria,
Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Eire, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands,
Portugal, Spain, Sweden the UK, ,. Cyprus, The Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania,
Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia
NB the original documentation is needed
For further information, please refer to SVA 4

I'm sure you can try and find the rest... ;) TBH, your best bet is to phone/email the DVLA/VOSA who will be the best people to explain it to you.

it has to be totally standard, though he had a prob with the fog light lense not being e marked so he put on a fog lamp on the bumper and it passed!!!

well then I'm already screwed, I bought the car with an HKS airfilter and an after market exhaust. When you say totally standard do you mean, not a single thing at all changed? What about stuff like wheels and body kit? Surely that doesn't make a difference?

i mean, from the factory standard, u mie get away with the exhaust but they do do a emissions test!! and as for alloys, well try and get the lend of sum1 near u with standard glanza alloys!!!

it doesnt need an sva tho if its 10 years old correct?

Thats what I've heard. I'm posted back in April so I'm probably gonna have tp put it in storage till the following January. Kinda sucks but its the only way round it I can see. Unless I grease a few palms out here at the SVA centre. :p
