iPhone jailbreaking

I know a lot of you on here have unlocked your iPhones and I have always said that I dont really see the point, and I still dont... but!

My gf has an iPhone which I bought unlocked so that she can use whatever sim she wants in it depending where she is.

Now the problem is that the software version on the phone is in need of being updated. If she uses itunes to update the software it will lock it again right?

If that happens how does one unlock the latest version of iphone s/w?

As far as I know mate the best thing to do is download redsn0w I think (Linux) and download the updated firmware via the site it gives and use redsn0w to update ( if you update via iTunes you'll lose the unlock / jailbreak as it updates the baseband which can't be rolled back and as far as I know hasn't been jailbroken yet) I'm yet to update as I'm happy with how it's working at the minute so don't want to mess it up and stress out trying to find a fix!

yeah thats what I meant by the first post in the thread. I have one that has old software on it that I need to update but then I need it to be jailbroken so it can be used with another sim in it again.

Alrite lads eh there is a new and easy soft ware that wrks in two seconds provin it's called spirit type it into YouTube if u like the site is www.spiritjb.com it does everything for u I promise bud

If you use blackrain software to jail break which automatically makes it dual band,by updating the sofware it will go back to single network,best to avoid updates.there is new better software available which will not wipe the jail break software by updates.

Look up Dino Zambas on youtube walk u thru every step of it, he's a legend.. i swear by him.. the latest ver ther is a jailbreak for is 3.1.2 as theyve not bothered updatining it for 3.1.3 so if ur already running on 3.1.2 leave it as thers no difference really between the two

This is the only correct and accurate response in this thread. The latest frimware update will be 3.1.3 and the only proven software to "jailbreak" that is Spirit. It is very, very, very simple to do. You then install the PWNage tool package in Cydia and that will unlock the phone for use with any network. Simples.
