Is it actually possible to insure cars anymore?

Guys the arguments about rollcages are irrelevant.

OF course they help in a crash but from an insurers point of view, like most mods. they wander why you would have a rollcage.

EG. if you fit sport brakes you will stop quicker.. - insurers see this as you want to go faster... same with a rollcage, they think simply, you have fitted it as you are going fast in your car and want more protection.

I wish i still worked for NU insurnace as i could have given you a % increase for each individual mod,, they literally have a price list for each modification.

If your car is only worth £5 then put that down, but that is what you'll probably be offered for the car if you claim.

Probably correct, but in the event you wrote your car was worth £10000, the insurance company would send someone out and value your car at £6000, just to save money, and give the customer the ball ache to get the vehicle revalued. It always seems to favour the insurance company.

With respect, that is an incorrect sweeping statement. What about the insurers who get it right first time?

Haven't seen it personally (I work for a car insurance company), but from forums and people you speak to, people generally say that cars get under valued. I know it isn't the insurance company who gets it wrong, it's the assessors they use. My insurance is with you guys, and you seem to know about my car, the mods, etc, but the assessor will just see it as an import, not understand the value of the car or its modifications, get it incorrect

The thing is though, who puts up a positive report when an insurers gets it right? No one, hence you're only seeing bias views. Also, you have to bare in mind that an awful lot of people over-value their vehicles.

It's rare we (Sky Insurance) have an issue with a claim and value placed on our customer's vehicles.

There is no way of knowing until an insurer gets it right :p lol

Back to the original topic though - I can guarantee that no insurance company will give a reasonable price to insure a 2nd car.

Also, what situations can you legally get temporary cover? As far as I can tell the car has to:
- be yours
- not have insurance elsewhere
- be SORN
- have tax

Those last two points are mutually exclusive, but that's what the law seems to say.
