im just a tard when it comes to computers in particular and dont really know where to start with shit like this. ive tried google but havent found anything solid really.....

when i go on full-screen gaems on my pc and then alt-tab out of them the pc just goes into meltdown screen starts flickering, like protruding rows of horizontal white stripes attack me from outta nowhere. but is alright once i open the game up again? its strange it doesn't do it all the time

i;ve done registry checks, defragmented my hard disk drive and anti-virus scanned but games tend to be dead slow aswell, its never perfectly smooth edges are always jagged etc. i assume this is a gfx issue? as i got a ati radeon x550 (googled it just then, turns out its well past obsolete lol) is a new graphics card in store or are there any other like components i should replace inparticular

If your after gaming then you do need a half good spec setup

look into getting some RAM (depending what RAM your motherboard supports)

look into getting a new GFX card ( also depending what your motherboard supports)

if you need any help with finding out what you need than i can help you out with that to (Y)




This card would do you fine ...but need to know if your motherboard is AGP or PCIe

i use it for like call of duty and team fortress 2 but wow now and again as well. this is quite an old computer, like 4 or 5 years now i seem to remember it being better/faster than it is now.. do computers just wear and tear lol?

i bid on on a gfx card early this morning before i saw your post craig, paid 27 quid for it in the end.. its a Inno3D nVidia GeForce 8600 GT 256MB PCI-Express, sli ready, none of which means a lot to me lol but im sure it means something to yous. read a couple of reviews and it seems alright

was tempted to bid on a couple motherboards and processors (AMD ATHLON X2 6000+ DUAL CORE AM2 3GHZ) 2 but didn't buy anythin lol, cause was just wonderin if a processor or motherboard make any real difference to gameplay?

well put it this way.. the 8x nvidia gpu's are not that bad.. but as it is, (ie since ur into gaming) u need better, but i guess it will suffice.. whats worrying is that you have an ati card, but uv bought an nvidia card.. im not sure what mobo u have but i think u really need to upgrade..

however before you upgrade, its a good idea to open your case up & give all the heat sinks, mobo, cpu etc a good clean as dust can really hamper your system..

however if u need to upgrade ..a little gaming guidleine (a medium end gaming pc) for mild gamers would be as follows:

4 gb ddr3 pc12800 @1600mhz (minimum)
intel core2quad q9550
at lease 2 sata2 hd's in raid 0
decent cooling, living in the uk u may get away with a good air cooler
a minimum of 2 9800gt's or 9800gtx, or if u can afford a couple of gtx series cards like say 2 gtx260's.. not so high end but with a little overclocking they can give results as good (sometimes better) than a single gtx295 :)
power wise id reccomend a coolermaster 1000w minimum for sli gaming.. it may seem like alot of power but its better to have a high end psu working at a low % rather than a smaller psu maxed out ;)

now an sli motherboard.. u wont really need 3 way sli so i suppose a 2way sli mobo is good enough.. now i dont really like the new core-i7 processors or chipsets thats y iv suggested the q9550 processor.. if u want a good range of motherboards try & find one with the nvidia 790i (or 790iUltra) chipset as that will be ideal.. as far as mobo's go have a look at either Asus' ROG line or ASUS' premium mobo's as theyre just as good ;)

Usualy to exit a game with ALT Tab aint such a good idea. Some games react in your described way. Some games you can exit using alt tab but others do not like it at all and crash.

Good advice:)

I dont think he'll have a problem with the nvidia considering he has nvidia controllers through out his system,as long as its pci it should work ok.
Once you change it over go to device manager make sure its gone so that it doesnt try to over power the new card,if its there just delete it along with the ati cataylast control center,ati tools tray and the ray adams tools.

thanks kon. looks expensive.. gives me something to work towards :)

i'll c how this nvidia card gets on anything has got to be an improvement from what i've got right now. got some RAM on the way aswell the setup might not be the best but in my eyes its gonna be like going from pedalling a trike my garden round to hopping into a starlet in terms of performance:)

tramp spec gaming pc ftw lol
