Legalities of Engine Swap ?

Mr. Yaris

Hey guys,

Well I'm getting to the stage where the Yaris will be ready to roll once more.

Question is, how do I go about notifying people about the Engine swap, as I'm putting a 4EFTE in it.

How does it work with ;
- Tax,
- Insurance,
- MOT,
- Log Book, etc.

Do I just write off to the DVLA and that's job done?

Cheers

Hey guys, cheers for the replies.

Yea the Blue Yaris at TD is mine.

So will VOSA go and check it there, or do I need to take it to them somewhere?

Cheers

why is that? i fitted my 4efte engine myself and its easily as good as any garage could do. i guess as my car is originally an import anyway it makes it a bit easier???

i have sent my log book off to change details on another car previously and it was done no questions asked. as long as its insured correctly i wouldnt have thought its too much of a worry!?

My old car was a corsa 1400 sport with a 2.0 redtop fitted. Usually if you send off the V5 with the change of engine, code.....etc then they change your V5 no bother (which obviously means your tax is changed accordingly). I have heard of some people having to send a report from a mechanic to say that the conversion was done corretly and that the brakes, suspension, mounts.....etc had been sufficiently uprated aswell. The MOT is as normal only that the emmisions test is conducted for the donor car (in my case astra GTE) and as it was an 1989 engine it needed only to pass the basic emmisions test.

Do they still do SVA test ( single vehicle approval)
dvla letter with log book changes needed
Tax should change then as they now scan log books
Insurance will be more, mine was 3500 at 19yoa

Or dont do any of the above and be rude like me lol
