Hi Guys,

Had my computer for over 7 years now, beginning to annoy me with the slow speed, its awful lol.

I have a Playstation 3 so if i need to play games i can use that, im not much of a PC Gamer anyway apart from Counter Strike lol

I do alot of Photography and Graphic design.

What and where would someone suggest buying from.

Thanks

What's your budget and what is your monitor like?

I recently bought a new PC from Tesco's. It cost £450 for the base unit with keyboard and mouse, but no monitor. I know for the money I could have built better, but I couldn't be arsed with the setup or the wait.

It's an AMD X2 4400+ Dual Core (2.3Ghz, dual core means actual speed is double that ;)) with 2GB RAM and a 250GB HDD. It came packaged with Vista and a smattering of other programs too. I'm not sure if they still do them, but it's worth a look.

I recently bought a 1GB 8600GT nVidia card too (There's a topic about that) which has turned it into a fairly good games machine.

Have a look on www.eBuyer.com too, see if they do any package deals. If you're not sure about the spec, post a link up, I'll have a look.

:)

EDIT:- Forgot to say, the monitor I have is a 19" widescreen from Argos, cost £140. They do a 6 months interest free option too.

Thank you for the reply Monkfish

i have built PC's in the past, but that was in college and its been a while!

I would just rather buy one than have to wait for parts.

well...budget... i could spend 500 - 1000... but i dont need to, looking to spend about 300 - 350.

Cheers

I usually build my own computers but this time I found a bargain that was too good to pass up.

# AMD Athlon X2 5000+ Processor
# 2GB Memory
# 250GB Hard drive
# DVD-RW Optical Drive
# Gigabit Ethernet
# Vista Home Basic Operating System
# Monitor Not Included

http://www.microwarehouse.co.uk/catalogue/item/HPPC1194

It's a HP and microwarehouse are part of the DSG group (Dixons, PCWorld, etc, ugh) but the best bit was it cost me £233.83 inc VAT and I am currently awaiting my £50 cash back from HP. :) Even without cash back I think this is a good deal for a base unit. Not good for gaming though unless you upgrade graphics card, and then you might need a new PSU though so not so great deal if you are thinking of doing this.

http://www.pcwb.com/ - PCWorld business also have the same offer as it is the same company.

Hope this helps.

Monkfish - Totally agree. :) I couldn't pass it up at that price and HP just approved my cashback today so it basically cost me just over £180. :)

Greg0r - Yep, the mobo ain't nothing special but you can't really expect that for the price. I don't think you would be able to build this spec with Windows Vista Basic for the same price but I may be wrong as I don't really follow component prices TBH.

You are right though - max RAM is 2gb. It does have PCI-Express x16 slot though! But the PSU is only 250 watt so you couldn't upgrade to a top end graphics card although it would probably take a mid range card from comments I have read on the forums. Worse case you could upgrade the PSU.
