...sigh

Ok so last year for my 21'st my parents got me a personalised number plate NP04 NJP. (my initials)

Finally got round to puting it on my car and i get a letter back saying they cant assign it because it would make my car appear younger than it is.

I just fancied having a rant, as i swear iv seen old cars with plates similar to mine. Also, why cant it make it look younger. People are allowed to look younger than they are why cant my poor little car. DVLA annoy me.

Anyone know if theres any way round it?

no way around that dude.. Its the 04 part that you are not allowed.. When i was choosing my number plate it stated this.. Gota do your research man ;)

It could fall inexperienced people on resale so id assume thats why you cannot do it. Makes sense, you have to see their point on this one.

I didnt read it (i know i should have done but my parents did most of the leg work. TBH the dvla should have told them as they were in contact with them alot to make sure it would be useable for me) but on the back of the v750 form all it says is "You cannot make a vehicle younger than it actually is".

Guess i need to go out and buy a new car 04 onwards...but i dont like any, other than the citroen DS3. Is it just me or does that car just look pretty damn cool.

You dont buy a car to accommodate a plate, you buy a plate to accommodate a car! Sell the plate and buy another plate.

Im sure it does state in several places that you cant make the car appear newer by putting on a different plate.

I got a personalised plate last year for my 30th and made a point in getting one that would be older than the cars I would be looking at, G12 then my initals and I dont plan on getting another car thats that old so I hope I dont get the same problem further down the line.

Maybe do what Dan suggested and sell your old plate and buyn a new one.
