search function in new threads?

as most are aware, its almost daily that people ask the same basic questions, on the peugeot forum i'm on,
psooc.co.uk if any one wants to looks, when you create a new thread, after typing the thread title it brings up a list of other topics with the same words in it, so that if it has been posted before it helps you.

i know people say about the search button, but alot of people dont bother.
and tbh, i find it quite useful on there.

Sounds like a great idea monka.

Its even more hassle than using the Search button on here, but I find I get great results with a google search, along the lines of:

site:www.toyotagtturbo.com *InsertQueryHereAndRemoveAsterisksLol*

for example...

site:www.toyotagtturbo.com fuel cut

Which gives ---> http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=si...avclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B3GGGL_enGB262GB262

Much better than forum results, especially for shorter search queries and more advanced ones.

Also, a google powered search would be ideal, several sites I've seen use this --> http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php <-- being a prime example

I'm sure there is a google API available, that'd be an ideal starting point (if you haven't seen it already!)

if you go here and scroll right to end on the right you will see a discreet search box Ive been working on with google custom search kept it hidden away..

the search on here isnt great. doesnt search for anything with less than 4 characters.

fcd, fpr, abs, ecu etc cant be searched for!!!

yeah I was planning on dropping it into the forum at some point but there is one issue with it that needs resolving so once that is done it will be put somewhere very obvious.

as for a name... hmmm how about DaveSearch?
