Speeding - 71 in a 50 dual carriageway

Hi,

I've just recieved a speeding ticket for doing 71mph on a dual carriageway which I hadn't realised had a 50mph limit (pointlessly since it should be national speed limit) - at the time I didn't realise until just before the camera when I saw a 50 sign ahead and by that time it was too late.

The camera was just after a crest of the hill so you can't see it until you are over the top - is this legal? isn't there something about they have to be visible from a certain distance (i.e. they can't put them just after blind bends or hidden from view?)

Also, is 71 in a 50 still 3 points and £60, or is it more?

And does anybody have any advice (besides paying more attention to the speed limits), or has anybody had success with solicitors that specialize in getting people off this sort of thing (like http://www.motoringlawexperts.com/)

Thanks

I would just say pay the fine, take the points and learn from your mistake.

I got made redundant and really can't afford to pay it at the moment, plus my licence has just become clean (i'd let a friend borrow my car after he'd sworn he was fully comp and was insured 3rd party on other cars and the c*nt went through a speed camera) so I'd really like to keep it clean. b*st*rd cameras

This happened to me recently. Was coming back from my girlfriends in lancaster and there is a long tight left hander onto the motorway which was 50 because of roadworks. Got onto the motorway and there was a massive lorry in front of me chucking spray up and two cars catching up to me fast so I pulled out to overtake the lorry and floored it to 70. Saw a flash behind me and then only saw the 50 and camera sign about 100 metres further up the motorway. For some reason I never got anything through the post and never heard about it. They put them in the stupidest places for some reason.

take the three points and the fine as if they do summons you fine will be higher and possibly more points than intended at first.

I just got my first points on my own license for overtaking a tractor trailer on a long left bend downhill. Trooper clocked me from his rearview mirror with his car off. It's hard not to speed on a 4 hour trip, usually I can peg 85 the entire way to shave an hour off. Now I can't go over 75mph.

Here though if you chose to fight the ticket, even if you're guilty, pleasing not guilty will remove the points, but leave the fine in place. Wish someone would've told me to fight it before I paid up.
