Sunday, November 08th, 2009:

I took today off to go support Moe of SRT (Swift Racing
Technologies) who was to have debuted his new race car at this
weekend's imports vs. domestics bash at MIR (Maryland
International Raceway)

POSTER640.jpg

I'd heard that at the private track rental on Friday, Moe's car
had blown a head gasket which resulted in a late night trash
back at the shop in order to have the car ready for Saturday's
scheduled time runs.

Saturday evening, I called Denys (Boostjunkie) to see how the
car had done and was told it was being taken back to the
shop after another mishap during one of the runs. I got the
impression it was a minor thing and so told him that I'd hook
up with them the following day at MIR for eliminations.

I was under way by 5:00 AM and an hour and a half later, this
sight greeted me as I turned onto Budds Creek Road:

...we had beat the sunrise...

While eliminations weren't scheduled to begin until around
3:00 PM, the reason I wanted to get there as early as
possible was to because I'd decided to enter TERCEL1 into
one of the many classes...

I decided upon this class:
A-Stick.jpg

So, for the first time since March 21st of this year, TERCEL1
would be running under a number other than 1945...

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, car number 612
640-IMG_4573-inthelanes2.jpg

(the A/S 12 stands for A-Stick and ET bracket)

Once I'd gotten all squared away... (tech inspected, secured a
pit area for TERCEL1, dropped the front end and installed the
slicks)

... I awaited the call for A/Stick to get into the staging lanes
and prepare for their first timed runs...

It was while waiting to be called to the starting line that I
called Denys and found out that they were back at the shop
(thrashing again) only to discover later in the afternoon that a
bent valve would keep Moe's car out of action this weekend.

It was also while waiting in the lanes that I started thinking,
"I'd only run in the 12s twice and the were very HIGH 12 s
(12.8 and 12.9) followed by FOURTEEN passes, anywhere
from 13 to 15... Plus, my transmission wasn't shifting as
smooth as butter... Who was I kidding? Probably a more
realistic and attainable bracket might be the 13s!?"

Those nagging concerns evaporated when, at 9:39 AM,
TERCEL1 launched into it's second quickest pass to date:

One hour later (at 10:36 AM) TERCEL1 backed up that pass
with another PERSONAL BEST...

I was convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that TERCEL1 is
truly a 12 second car when, at 1:49 PM) I picked up the time
slip from my 3rd (and final) timed run before eliminations and
a big THANKS to Mr. John Douglass who froze time as
he captured the launch...

...and I did it in front of so many people...

As it turned out, the time between my last timed run and the
first round of eliminations was close to 5 1/2 hours so, I took
that opportunity to walk around and do some shooting:

By the time eliminations for A/Stick class rolled around (after a
5 1/2 hour wait) and TERCEL1 was ready to make a pass, it
was 7:15 PM and I was quite tired... (Keep in mind, I am 64
years of age...) Excuses, excuses, excuses... Ha-Ha-Ha!!!

I guess my head just wasn't in the game by that time (or the
guy in the other lane was a better driver) and so, a day that
had its share of 12 second passes ended like THIS!

I may be back later in this thread with some other insights and
observations but for now, I'll just close by letting you look at
the report card for this beautiful Sunday in November... the
Sunday in which TERCEL1 actually participating in an EVENT!

That's awesome! Tercel1 goes really well

I love your cockpit, the rev counter and all the other guages look good.

Noticed your boost guage peaking 20psi and i know it's a big turbo, but do you still have standard internals?

nice one mate.

that last run would have been a ripper if you had made it stick.
by the looks of it the 1st 2 second gear change didnt go so well for you? 1.8 60ft is nuts! would have been a mid 12sec run at least

Yeah, I noticed when I came off the line, the car almost made a
right turn towards the center line... sure wasn't expecting that.

Thanks to all for the kind words!
