Did that soon as I bought it mate, there was a fair bit of corrosion but I figured I'd get a few years more out of it..

I noticed yesterday that when you thump the sill trim below the door area there is a wonderful shower of rust. I just know it's going to make me sad but it needs sorting. Fully prepared for the worst - at this stage I accept it's all part of the fun!

I've been ignoring mine for a while but it definitely needs attention soon....

Il drop you a pm jay but briefly i cut them out and welded in MK3 fiesta 5door sils they needed abit of reworking to fit nothing too drastic tho once you start getting heat in the panel you can work it roound abit, once youve cut the sil out you might find that the inner sil and box section is rusty as fuck aswell

That's fresh u need to see mine ! My car is h Reg
Hence the reason I'm playing for 6 months and braking the lot
Cause once u start welding ull never stop plus 300hp in a tub of patched rusty metal Na ur ok
I do have cats mint shell but if I was going to swap the lot I'd like to fully Seam weld the shell then dip it paint it etc still in two minds

get it done mark. would be a shame to brake urs up. get that shell stripped and acid dipped, take it home, seam weld, cage and brace it, e coat it and get it resprayed inside and out. make it even more of a weapon!! :D

That's the thing - All this rust came from Japland mate, she was rusty when imported and has only seen two winters on the salty roads. Nowhere near enough time to develop this amount of rot..

I've parked it next to the 'mint' mk1 in the garage. Just hope the rustbugs don't make the jump across!

Oh and that is the good sill.

Here's a pic of the passenger side sill:

That's it. The whole sill was swept off the floor. Good job I'm battlehardened by now!

My advice (and certainly what I'll be doing asap with the rest of the fleet) is to inspect, treat and prevent any issues immediately. Even if it only slows things down it will be worth tackling sooner rather than later. Prevention is better than cure when it comes to rust.

I'll keep this thread updated in regards to how things progress.

I was removing the skirts every winter since 2005! Still the buggering rust caught mine :( Doesnt help staying up a dirt track..

EDIT - To add, Jay my Mini had better looking sills that that when i bought her in 2002! :D
