look into fitting an a series gbox, with uprated internals which can be bought for a few pennies.. it does require some headache, but it can be done.. ps no i dont have any pictures & no im not sure what u need to change exactly..all i know its been done with very good results ;)

U need to think outside the box, so to speak :haha:

(ill get my coat) lol

I'm not sure if anyone else is running as much torque though one of these boxes. However there is a possible reason for the failure. The slave cylinder was knackered and when the box let go I had difficulty getting her into second gear on a run, then shifted to 3rd and it was difficult to get in and boom, gearbox gone.

Maybe the Slave cylinder wasn't able to cope any longer.

Id say this is one of your main issues. Your clutch sounds like it was not disengaging properly during shifts so of course your going to have issues. Make sure your slave is ok + check the pedal is adjusted propely then check that the rod length is sufficient. I had a similar issue with mine.

You also need to look at the clutch your running. It could be extremely harsh which could be another cause of the box letting go.

My worry now though is cause I'm going to run a longer final drive then 3rd gear will be engaged alot longer on each run and needs to take the abuse for longer.

First off, why a longer final drive? longer final drive = slower accelleration. Id more look at changing tire size to adjust your drive ratios but thats just me and im poor:p. I run std final drive with 20" slicks (tiny) as it gets me 127mph in fourth at max rpm across the line. Any taller and im not using all the gears I can and any shorter I waste time with another shift. Your issue will not be the time the gear is engaged but more-so the load which you put on the gear itself. Longer final drive = more load on the gearbox and the engine. Then again, the issue with stripping the gear seems to be the initial hit which should be lessened with a longer drive.

In regards to your comment about running smaller brakes to run 13's. You dont need smaller brakes, just find the right 13's that fit. Ive been running them for years. If you get desparate I believe the ukdm ep91 brakes will fit and are smaller.

If you have the cash for a dog engagement straight cut gearset then go for it. Flat shifting will be a huge bonus. Myself and another guy here, tig, run 11.2 and 11.3 sec quarters on std boxs and have had very little trouble. Tig has stripped 3rd once and changed syncros a few times. Im broke so I just shift slower now my synchros are shagged:(. I also dont run an lsd. I just welded the centre. If your serious about drag racing than Id reccommend this as lsd's in high power starlets here seem to develop bearing issues after a while. If it was me, Id stick it out with oem gear but like I said, if you got the cash, go for it. If you go the straight cut gearset, Id go a 4.2 final drive and fit the biggest slicks possible under the thing.

Hope this helps. Will be good to see this thing when it gets that power down.

Cheers

In a way yes, as their smaller and usually lighter. The problem is there is a very limited range for 14" tires here so you can only go to 185 wide and then the next step up is 225 I currently run 14x8 rims with 14x20" slicks. small overall diameter but also a very thin tire wall which isnt the best. A good compromise is a 13" rim with a 22x8" slick. Gives a huge side wall and still a nice overall diamter. Im hopeing to try this later when when I have some money.
