Yet another problem... ready to give up

Well my GT was running fine until yesterday when i lost all power having just reversed of my drive.
The car starts fine but when its just idleing there is a very strange gurgling type noise coming out of the air filter

Also it is massively down on power if you try to move it and then the revs fall and the engine cuts out.

It hasn't stopped raining here for about the last 3 days, could there be water somewhere or is it more serious?

Any help or suggestion will be massively appreciated.
Getting so disheartened with it now :(

have you checked intercooler pipes for leaks?vacum hoses for leaks?
plug leads on properly?
also id take the filter off going to the turbo and cheak for play as the filter is connected to the turbo!

Right have just checked the spark plugs and they are all wet. and it looks like there is water in the head. I'm guessing this means the headgasket has gone!?
Can someone just confirm this for me please or any other thoughts?
Thanks

when you say water is in the head, where exactly do you mean? sitting ontop of the pistons after you took the plugs out or have you had the cam cover off and there is water in with the oil?

could be leaking past your spark plug leads. will sit in the tunnel until you remove the plug then go into the cylinder.

where is your filter mounted? if its front mounted could have just drawn a load of water in???

The water was sitting on top of the pistons after i had taken the plugs out. Didn't seem to be any water in the tunnel before i removed the plugs and the HT leads were fine.
The filter is just in the normal location. it isn't relocated behind the grill.

is it still running rough or havnt you tried running it?

if you try running it for a little bit does it clear itself? any smoke out of the exhaust? has it lost any coolant? any mayo under the oil cap?

if you think it is headgasket, you could try emptying the cooling system and then try running it. dont run it for long, but if it seems ok then you have water leaking in via either a crack or your headgasket.

sounds more likely you had water leak in through your bonnet vent onto the plug leads and down the tunnels. make sure its all dried out and also check the dizzi cap while your at it and see how it is then!

I haven't tried running it since. The was lots of white smoke out of the exhaust when i tried to move it, which would suggest water.
Been losing small amounts of coolant, but i put it down to my old radiator, which had signs of leaking and got a new one recently.
No mayo under the oil cap.

I have dried the plugs out now. should i just try putting it back together and starting it up?

You should start it. When water gets into the plug channels it shorts the plugs out and the car will be down on power/hard to start or will not rev cleanly. Make sure you dry the plug leads before replacing them. Before starting the car, remove all four plugs and turn the engine over with the starter. This will blow out any water that fell on top of the pistons when you removed the plugs. Did the engine over heat at any time with the dodgy radiator??

Ok thanks very much guys. I will put it back together tomorrow and give it a try and let you know what happens.
The car never overheated on the old radiator.
