Can anyone tell me the use of them? cos my plate has rusted, do i really need it?

its a wear indicator and causes your brakes to sqeek when your pads are low telling you its time to change them if you havent already.

ha i wore them right down, jst metal to metal, that'll be cause im waiting for big brakes kit from dave. cars off the road now
Anti squeal plates. Expensive from toyota but you don't necessarily need them.

if they are anti squeel they dont work that well. mine squeel quite a bit.

I've not got plates in mine, squeals like a stuck pig sometimes with the 3G disks and Mintex 1144 pads...

same here. 3g disks and pagid pads and it gets annoying sometimes. constantly stripping them down, cleaning and re-copper greasing them and it stops it for a bit but then comes back.

erm i'm almost certain that sentence is not true.
its an anti sqeul shim, mine has 2 shims on either side.

I think he's on about the little metal attachment on the pads themselves, rather than the ant-squeal shim we are on about.
