View Full Version : Did you Buy a Good one or Bad one ???????

KrissyB

Looking around at Posts and various Threads etc etc, there seems to be a variety of Starlets / Glanza's which seem to be in two very different catagories.

For example I have had my GT now for 1 year and bought it as a fresh import I have done not many miles and only use it for fun, but never really had any major issues even with the Td04 @ 1 bar and she's done 86,000 miles now.

However some cars just seem riddled with issues or just die at the first Instance of an Engine Mod or any Mod for that matter.

It does however seem to be more glanza's that suffer with issues?????

So which one did you buy a Good one or Bad one ???????

I bought a good mechanical one, the body work is pretty poor tho, but it was cheap and is ideal for all the track work it will be seeing because i wont care if it gets a few battle scars here and there!

of course they do, and this just being my opinion, but i see the gt's as more the enthusiasts car, and the glanza as the 'shiny thing that chav's like'.

no offence to any glanza owners, but they are a newer, better looking car.

like the saxo/106, more chavs drive the saxo, they look better.

No major problems with mine for the past two years.

Always tend to get little annoying problems like wiper motor's failing and as with a few GT's the paintwork needs touching up in place.

monka
24-01-2009, 06:34 PM
lol,

no offence to glanza owners meant, i just know the mentality of chav's, used to know a few unfortunately. like fucking magpies.

they drive round, rag them, brake them, an enthusiast gets hold of it, then gets all the problems.

Turbo timer harness already in the car
APP Braded hoses.

I had more problems with my gt than my glanza.

Btw whoever said that a glanza is a chavs type of car, I see heaps of minks in aberdeen and the surrounding area driving gts. The fact is, these cars are cheap, affordable for anyone

dac69er
24-01-2009, 10:32 PM
i would have gladly had those problems.

so far on mine ive had the following problems:

both sides window bottom brackets broken ( the ones that are bonded to the screen and are near impossible to change).

one window motor knackered.

speedo cable broken.

both hubs, wheel bearings and trackrod ends knackered.

washer pump knackered

rad leaking from drain bung

gearbox seal leaking

both sun visors broken

no window rubber on windscreen

one headlight damaged at the rear

various small oil leaks (crankshaft seals, cam cover gasket etc)

alarm/immobiliser needed some rewiring and the led replaced

front fogs dont work (due to some dodgy aftermarket jap things that have been fitted)

hits fuel cut instantly in high boost even with stock airbox and cat still fitted.

battery not tied down at all.

most of these things have been done. just waiting on parts at the moment.

i first saw mine at a cruise... i offered to buy when the guy
wanted to sell, so in 3 months time i get the call i provisionally said
yes and went to see it.... then saw it again and again third time
third time i bought it... even made him take off tint he was putting on..
then i paid his asking price and told him to leave it as it was stereo etc..

i kept an eye on for a while till i bought it.... i never saw the guy floor it anywhere... sunday driving everywhere......

i can say it has been a good buy lol apart from my
mods or routine maintance.....

everything is sorted bar the speedo cable, washer pump, window motor, light and the small oil leaks.

got a load of bits coming next week so should just be left with the light and the small oil leaks to sort.

it hasnt cost me much as i had loads of spares anyway and do all the work myself. plus i love a challenge and gives me something to do i guess ;)

This ranges from alarm-front lights-back lights-radiator fan-radio-elctric windows-ecu (multible wires that lead nowhere)-speakers and turbo timer wires that are a mess,so i took it out just so i didnt have to look at it

Got some of it done ,still have fan, radio, speakers, lights and random wires..out of pure sick of looking at the wires i havent looked at them in a while, going to do the radio next week

Thanks and i will do,should be up next sunday with chris if he can fit me in

I'd say mine has been brilliant (tho not completely without its faults!)

I've covered over 40k in it, in less than a year and a half and except from mods its not asked for a thing except regular oil changes :)

Given she has so many aftermarket parts I'd say she's a testament to her old owner in Jap land :) Hope I haven't jinxed it! :D

of course they do, and this just being my opinion, but i see the gt's as more the enthusiasts car, and the glanza as the 'shiny thing that chav's like'.

no offence to any glanza owners, but they are a newer, better looking car.

My Glanza is nearly up to 30,000 miles in my hands in the 2 years I have had it. Still wearing the set of Goodyear Eagle F1's I put on it after a month of ownership and they have a fair bit of tread left. Nothing has been spent on it apart from regular servicing and a few aftermarket bits. Not one breakdown or issue at all. Treat these cars correctly and they will last for ever. Thrash them and drive them like a cock then they will break. You can tell how I drive from the fact that I will have gotten about 35000 miles out of my tyres!!!

Or could it be the Maccy D trays under the wheels that saves the tyres!!!! Thats a joke by the way! Its just Lots of long motorway journeys and knowing that wheel spinning doesnt get you anywhere. Must admit I am suprised how well they have lasted. I have swapped them round front to back to keep the wear even but I have only done that once.
Being nearer to 40 than 30 has also matured my driving slightly
