Refurbished my own wheels...

Well I had week of work this week and by Tuesday I was bored out of my mind so I decided to have a go at refurbing my own wheelsas the polished lip had gone a bit shitty and there were some kirbing marks. They are Rota Grids and were gunmetal grey with a polished lip.

It was pretty straightforward really I sanded them down by hand and then put a few coats of primer on rubbed them down again lightly and then painted them in brilliant white, a few coats of laquer and heres a before and after;

It is hard work but if you have some knowledge of spraying and the patience to sand them down properly I cant see why anybody couldnt do it! Spray, sand paper, Tea bags etc probably cost me £50 all in!

Cheers lads, I couldnt be happier with them they have come out much better than I thought they would and I sprayed them out on the decking so nothing fancy at all! Plus my R888's are back on for the summer I was starting to think that my Eagle F1s were good but what a difference with some tidy tyres back on!

I used 2 of these;

I found the Halfords wet and dry shit so I got some 120 grit from a local car shop and used that as it didnt break to bits as soon as it seen the wheel!

Then I used some lighter stuff to sand flatten down after the first coat of primer, and used some alcohol wipes to clean all dust etc off in between coats.

You would probably need a bit more primer and paint if you want to do all of the insides of the wheels as I only done about 3/4 of them but you cant see all of it anyway.

Good job there mate! At first when I saw the two pics I was like "what has he done!!" but after seeing them on the car they do look much nicer in white - so fair play for having a go!

I'm one of these geeks that finds refurbing wheels fun! Here's the last one I did... was pretty happy with it

good work mate. always nice to do your own wheels. But i can tell you now that brake dust will bed into the paint. The clear laquer is shite from halfords. you want 2k laquer or petrol resistance laquer.

Nice tidy job mate :beer: Really suits the car.

I did my wheels white, when I got them they were all bubbly and looked knackered. I used nitromorse to strip the majority of the paint off, before sanding it down all the way. If anyones thinking of doing it, it's a relatively easy job. Just take your time and don't go too heavy on the coats, I have a few streak marks on mine, because I applied too much paint in one go, but if I did it again I would be more patient and apply thinner coats.

Would just like to add. This wheel paint is very good, It is fairly thick and easy to spray and looks great. It is long lasting as well i painted my wheels last year and still look great.

Oh yeah and you did an awsome job.
