Default Mk2 golf gti 16v running rich?

Hi I know this isn't a Toyota but this site has many helpful people on here so I figure I can ask here

Seems as though though my golf is running rich (smells very fumey at the mo? ) any idea why this could be ? Thanks!

It depends if it's k-jet or the later electronic injection system that's on it (1.8 KR or a 2.0 ABF).
If it's k-jet (KR) the mixture can be adjusted via a 3mm (iirc) Allen key on the metering head on top of the airbox, clockwise for richer and anti clockwise to lean it out.
I would take it to a specialist though as k-jet is tricky to get spot on. Another reason I ran twin 45s on all my KRs.

if it has 4 braided stainless lines connected to the top of the metering head (behind drivers headlight in the engine bay) with banjo bolts its a KR.there should be an allen head mixture screw on there too.

I think I get you, here's a pic of the bay

Would this also contribute to a 1200 idle ? Thanks btw!

thats a later spec after they changed from stainless lines but still k-jet so can be adjusted manually.
idle can be adjusted via the throttle cable.
I've still got a load of mk2 parts lying around the garage, if your after anything just drop me a PM
