hi all , I live in Spain and have scoured the selling sites not being able to find a single gt out here , il probably have to buy uk and import it here , my question is - is there a left hand drive conversion kit ? Or company that can do it uk or Spain ? Not the end of the world if not but I’d like to change it if possible cheers all

I've seen it done on a Gen 6 gt-4 Celica on the forum when it was exported to Lithuania, from memory they swapped the bulkhead, steering rack, steering column, dashboard looks and a few other bits. It's totally do-able provided you can find a LHD doner to chop up.
Or just buy a LHD and build it into a GT
If I can find the thread I will link it in :)

Thanks for the info , had a look about there’s a few starlet n/a around in Spain , I think that may be the most cost effective option buy a stock gt as a donor car in uk for much cheaper than it would be to import /register and change to lhd here . I could leave the bonnet of the n/a aswell as I’d be using fmic so wouldn’t need the turbo scoop . I could drive the gt over myself and just take it to pieces over here saves a lot on re register and change drive side . I think that’s the way forward cheers lads

Will be keepin me eyes peeled too mate cheers and yea I’ve seen a few dreamers asking blood for shite examples ... but also saw a couple decent ones like this https://www.gumtree.com/p/toyota/toyota-starlet-gt-turbo-/1313091709 4500 but it’s got a lot of stuff I can use in the long run mite be a good idea to grab a smaller power one and build up from there allnthose little odds n sods add up quickly in €€€€. I’ll probably go 5e forged aswel so this 4e could be a backup lump or a 2nd project lol will keep a look out for decent priced stock one though for now get a decent base

You can get them registered in Spain but they are strict on the ITV (spanish mot ) and they don’t like rhd.. and Spain has loads of toll bridges and parking is mostly underground in the city’s which makes rhd a serious pain in the balls having to reach over the passo window to get ya tickets.. safe to say it’s just best to find a lhd be it swapping a motor and box and all the essentials from a uk gt to a spanish na starlet or much easier import a lhd and re register when it’s cleaned up and ready for mot here

Was just thinking of this last night, because the GT never came as a LHD you might find the like of the steering column, steering rack, dash loom, and a ton of other stuff I can't remember will not swap across to the LHD chassis. It'll be a case of working out what you can use and making do with what you can't. I don't know the spec of Spanish EP's but you could be kissing the PAS and adjustable column goodbye lol.

Basically you will be fitting a 4EFTE to a LHD model and figuring out how to make it work.

If you hit up the UK turbo conversion threads on here they should give you an idea on the electrics/wiring. Pretty sure the GT has a big following in Indonesia and other LHD markets (Holland for example) and it hasn't stopped them doing the conversions, 5 doors and all, you can see them amongst genuine Jap imports.

The physical fitting should be relatively easy as the engine mounts and actual chassis will be similar.

Hi there,
I drive an originally RHD Starlet GT EP82 1994 that was converted to LHD here in Oman. The conversion was done in Al-Sharjah in UAE long ago, because this car was first registered in 2004 and it must have had at least 3 to 4 owners before me and now its mine. What I think was done to the car was, they replaced the steering rack with one from a Toyota Tercel LHD and fabricated the interior to LHD. Replaced the pedals to the left and made a hole for the clutch master cylinder. That is all, the car drives smooth and people could not notice that it was converted from rhd to lhd.

Goodluck
