Time to leave the fold maybe?

Hi guys,

After being in the starlet scene for 15 years, I'm seriously considering selling my TD04 GT for a newer project car.... 2005 Seat Leon Cupra R.
I've loved every minute of owning and working on my starlets over the years, however, part of me feels that its time for something bigger, newer and more comfier..... I must be getting old lol.

With that being said, I know how addictive our little jap mobiles can be. I see people all the time sell up, only to return and get another one months/years down the line.

Can anyone share their experience of selling their Starlet or Glanza? What did you get next? Any regrets selling?.

Thanks for any info.

If I were to sell the GT, it wouldn't be for a 2005 Seat Leon Cupra R, personally.

Have you test driven one?

I instantly regretted selling my Glanza rep as it was solid as a rock, all the mods/looks etc
Then 3 hours later went picked the GT up :D

Get a run in a Caldina you will be surprised just how well they go and handle, LSDs in mine and you can have fun in the wet if you so wished. I hate driving mine, left ear gets wild sore :D, 2 on the bay of flea now both N spec

Not yet. Theres one at a local garage to going to arrange a test drive.
I was in a newer 405bhp model a few weeks back. Was really blown away by how comfy and quick the thing was. I'd be happy with an 05 model though personally. Just depends on whether I can let the GT go or not.

Haha, bro you keep telling me how good these Dinas are! I think the only thing that puts me off them is resale value. They're quite a niche car. I think thats why the one on ebay can't sell ?

Theres been a few sold on the bay, that white one I near went for but 180k km and the driver Recaro was hanging lol, bodywork and underneath was pretty close to immaculate looking through the photos they sent me.
Value, I can only see them going up

I was so close to buying a caldina until i found out they dont have a manual gearbox option.
The older st215 have a manual but hard came by, Spud who I bought mine and the GT off has one. I drove it and it was a proper laugh with the manual box :) excellent looking wagons with the aero kit too, brakes are just standard avensis wagon brakes tho and are pure shit for anything other than normal driving
The 246 brakes I've had grumbling a couple off times when pushing it on so that will have to be looked at in the future, maybe a 4 pot upgrade o_O

Will anything mainstream really beat an EP as a project car for us?

Don't get me wrong, there's far better cars out there and I've moved on to bigger machinery for daily duties, but none of them hold the same attraction that a GT lying in the garage would.

Just doesn't have the same vibe. And I can tell you this much, a Seat Leon won't have it either!

Just upgrade the daily :D

I'm in favour off upgrading the daily too :p
Personally for me nothing beats an old turbo charged Toyota :cool:mine has been outa sight outa mind a while now

FFS. Had a feeling you guys wouldn't make this easy lol.
Took the GT out for a spirited drive yesterday and I really think I would miss her if I got rid.
Not driven it for a while and had me grinning like a school kid.
Rear interior is going back in and I finally have some rails to fit my fishnet recaros. So will see how I get on.
I guess I could always look into upgrading the daily:cool:

lol Thanks man.
I think I would have regretted it big time. Hopefully get her booked in for remap after lock down and get the bodywork tidied up a bit.
Still itching for an evo, but unless I build a Shell garage in back garden, I think I'll hold off for a while.

I drove a mates 400/400 evo a few years back, and haven't been the same since. Was the most bonkers thing I had ever driven and handled like it was on rails:cool:

lol...maybe I'll take your advice and try a Dina some day.

Don't do it. I can honestly say selling my GT is one of the worst decisions of my entire life. Values seem to be going really up too.

It's been a long time since I've been on here but I was remembering the great days of GT ownership and my time on here.

You might even remember me.

Has Jay still got a gunmetal MK1 GT?

I deffo remember the car mate. What did you end up getting after the GT?

i've come close to selling mine a few times. But realistically, I would probs have a nervous breakdown afterwards, so she's staying for the time being, so I can get it remapped at long last and sort out the bodywork a bit - lacquer peel.

Listen to Rick everyone - I hear this story all too often!

Not to sicken you but yes, still here :
