GT Heater Issue

Yea you've maybe misaligned it slightly when refiting the box, from memory it's just a wee gauze with the smallest of seals, no pollen filter in these :)

The black plastic cover shouldn't affect it tbh, take it off and look down inside the bulkhead. The water should drain off behind the wing so if that's blocked the water could back up and head into the hole for the heating system. As Skiny says you could have a poor fit between the fan housing and the bulkhead too.

Thanks guys,

Still learning here. When you say I may have misaligned it, do you mean when fitting the fan housing back together with the box....so white box on the left in the pics, pairing up with the black box?

If so I triple checked it all, but guess I could always check again with the amount of times I've had the dash in and out over the past few weeks:eek:o_O

Yea bud the white box on the left that houses the fan, dont need the dash out but being small and flexible is definitely a plus :D

Thanks man. I'll double check it all again  .
I'm just confused as to why water would be in there...i.e if it was coolant it would make sense as the 2 matrix pipes come from the bay through the fire wall... into the passenger side.

I'll check the scuttle panel drain for blockages also. Will report back and let you guys know what I find.
I couldn't help but lol this afternoon when my neighbour said I should call it a day and get another Honda as I work on the GT more than I drive it:rolleyes:

So I removed the scuttle panel earlier to have a closer look.
There were no blockages/leaves from what I saw and water was draining off fine through the hole and down the side of the passenger wing.

However I did notice that water was seeping in through the plastic clips that mount the scuttle panel to the body with screws. The rubber underneath some of the plastic clips has perished and was letting water in.
I could see the water dripping down looking right up in to the blower motor box.
Cleaned all the surfaces down and removed the shot rubber, then went on the attack with the waterproof outdoor sealant.
Hoping this does the trick.

I'll do more water tests tomorrow as the sealant should have set by then.

I was watching this video last night funnily, which also helped to diagnose the issue:

Excuse the delay - actually had to strip my wipers out so waited till I'd a refresher course by doing that today lol.

The drain is inside the scuttle so you will find even seeing it difficult. Best way to see if its blocked is to pour water into the middle of the panel and watch for it flowing out of the area at the bottom of the wing. The GT has a fairly large lip around the air inlet.

Lol @ refresher course.
Well after removing the dash again - it must be at least the 12 time now since xmas- and removing the heater blower box I managed to figure out where the water was coming from.
This bung that sits beneath the windscreen. Thankfully I managed to remove it without snapping it or damaging the windscreen.
Cleaned, sealed, put back in and left to cure, no more leaks thankfully.
I resealed the one on the drivers side too as I assume thats where my leak on the drivers footwell was coming from too.

Result! Couldn't have guessed those were to blame so good work for future reference.

Definitely man. You should lock this thread Jay, and members can only have access to the info, after they have removed their dash at least 13 times  :D.

All jokes aside, hopefully this thread can help any other members who are struggling with heater or leak issues in the future. Given the age of these cars now, I think others will come across similar or the same issues:cool:

Quick update. These damn Starlets lol.
So got the car back together. Took her out for a blast - felt good to be back behind the wheel of a GT again - and realised it was leaking coolant from the copper matrix pipes in the bay. Gutted.
I replaced the spring clips with some jubilee clips, which seemed to help but they're still weaping slightly. Any tips on how to seal them without damaging the copper pipes? I thought maybe to replace the rubber hoses but looks like a pia to do.

Also, I think I have an air lock as my heaters are only luke warm. I flushed the system twice, put water through the new matrix both ways, and fitted a new thermostat. Pipes get mega hot, fan kicks in etc, so going to try again but jack the front of the car up this time.

Slip them back in the bay and lash the hairspray on the pipe then push them back on again
Phil told me this trick when I was struggling with a fmic leak at the joint :)

Thats an idea. Thanks for that. We used to do it when fitting new hand grips to our supermoto bikes .
