Ignition timing

I’m a little confused. Just replaced engine with a new rebuild one that never came with distributor so I swapped my old onto the new.

I’ve purchased a timing light gun standard no dials etc. Got the car to op temp, bridged t1 and te1. Timing light on cylinder lead 1. Got the pulley to match up with the 10 marker on the timing case but now my distributor is fully at end of travel. Is that normal? Any help please. The cars a gt turbo ep82

It doesn't, usually they are sitting around the midway point when the timing is correct.

Two things spring to mind, firstly is E1 and TE1 that needs bridged (not sure if T1 is a typo) and the other is do the revs go up or down when they are connected?

And rpm needs setting to 700 or or 750 when setting if I remember correctly???

If you do it whilst not it diagnostic mode you end up chasing the number as the ecu keeps adjusting it.

Thanks for the replies. yes t1 was a typo. As the engine was rebuild I double checked all timing and all matching 100%.
when e1 and te1 bridged, I’m still able to raise the revs with the throttle which then lead me to the TPS. So I bridged the 2 bottom pins of TPS sensor connector and idle dropped to just under 800. So adjusted the idle to around 750 and re checked ignition timing.
ignition timing was retarded to 0 on timing case mark so was able to adjust back to 10. Distributor now sits almost centre which is now all good.
regarding the TPS, as I know was at fault, would it be a case of adjusting it or would it be a faulty sensor.
ive just road tested the car without adjusting the TPS and car now pull very well unlike before, could this cause any damage if the TPS is faulty or not adjusted correctly. Cheers.

unlikely the tps is damaged, but it is possible.

i would have a go at adjusting it. its not hard to do. you just need a feeler gauge. you can guess it and get it pretty close if you havnt got a feeler gauge though ;)

i cant remember the feeler gauge gap off the top of my head, have a search on the forum as i am sure it is somewhere. it may be that you also need to adjust your throttle stop point and idle control screw. but if the throttle stop has not bee messed with, i wouldnt touch it yet.
