Problem with damaged big end bearing on rebuilt EP82 lump

Recently i rebuilt my EP82 lump with scat rods and slightly oversize wiseco pistons. After around 500 miles the engine started to knock slightly, i put this down to a big end knock. Today i removed the sump and found this on No1 conrod/cap:

The crank was reground and slightly oversized AE .25 big end bearings were fitted. All the engine was airline cleaned before being assembled, all oil ways were cleaned etc

Any ideas what could cause this, possibly something being picked up in the oil?

Thanks

do u have a oil pressure gauge mate ? did u fit a new o ring to the oil pick up ? there known to no seal 100% if not changed and if u have low oil pressure the rod furthest from the oil pump rod 4 would be the first to go (nested the fly wheel )

what are all the other big ends like? they the same?

Thanks for the replies. Bearings from rods 2, 3 and 4 are fine. Its just the bearings from rod 1 (cambelt side) which are scored/damaged. Looks like debris has come through the oil feed on the crank journal to be honest.

Well hopefully it sounds like you've caught it early enough to avoid any damage to the crank. Good luck.

I'm hoping so the engines in a 98 Paseo and was originally done about 3 years ago. Its my mates car but he passed away in August last year so we want to get it sorted again. Its running a TD04, Apexi management with power commander, Evo 4 FMIC etc etc

I'm hoping a new set of shells will sort it and that it hasn't made the journal oval!

You may of seen the car before as i think he did post pictures of it....
