Gear Ratio Comparison List

Introduction

Right, I'm not going to pretend to be a mathmatical genius or understand how all these little figures do what they do but I thought it was time to list them in the one place.

You can thank Starletto Joz for making me look into this aspect of the running gear - guess I sorta thought I had better give better reasons for hating the non-turbo gearbox than 'I've killed too many'!

Please offer any advice, provide further ratios and correct any mistakes that I have made.

Gear ratio data
All figures are taken from official Toyota source material that is sitting on the desk beside me here. I apologise in advance if I have made any errors.

TRD Gearsets

Thanks to the TRD All Parts Catalog (their spelling not mine) I have the gear ratios offered in the 1996 range. This was just as the Glanza V appeared so they may have revised these ratios in line with it's fat ass..

There appears to be three kits available:

33030-AE001

1st : 2.929
2nd : 2.176
3rd : 1.700
4th : 1.364
5th : 1.167

33030-AE011

1st : 2.438
2nd : 1.944
3rd : 1.600
4th : 1.364
5th : 1.167

33030-AE021

1st : 2.222
2nd : 1.850
3rd : 1.600
4th : 1.4.35
5th : 1.292

All three kits were listed at 250,000yen which today is around the £1400 mark going on today's rates.

Might interest some of our more esteemed members. ;)

anyone done the 6 speed swap into a starlet or any other E-series motor-equipped car? i'd like to know if indeed ALL the C-series trannies can bolt up and be used with the E series bell housing.

There are a few on here with the 6 speed gearbox on their starlets :)

the Corolla G6 gearbox seems to be the most common one to swap.

Yeah you need the G6R box the G6 box is a little weaker. For reference TRD have dis-continued all gear ratio sets apart from the shortest ratio one, there is only a few of these left in the world but they are suited to low power sprint Starlets. (like hill climbing).

TRD are also discontinuing there bush sets which is why we are frantically trying to get our own poly versions out. They have also discontinued there front anti roll bars. In around a year there won't be much left :(

Good info Jay rep added.

sorry for not sorting it to your template lol.

the G6 gearbox is the same as the levin 6 gear , and they both crumble like cookies vs. the cookie monster , in a 200+ hp starlet.

glanzas have a shorter 3rd and 4th gear, which is a blessing cause thats where the cars really bog down, but still it's not enough.

the 5speed levin and trueno, silvertop and blacktop, have GT and Glanza gear sets accordingly, and one comes with a 4:1 final gear and the other 4.3:1 .

i have c56 (glanza) gearing, combined with the 4.3 final gear, and the car is perfect for racing use, and in-city driving. on the highway it's a bit of a bitch, but i've gotten used to it.

these are some real numbers from my car, with a rev limit of 8.000 and 195/50/15 tires

1st 55kmh, 2nd 100, 3rd 135, 4th 180, 5th around 210-220.
