2 port oil catch can

Hi guys,

Ive had a quick search regarding oil catch cans, but cannot see the info I need.

Basically I bought a 2 port oil catch can below - my question is, do I need a breather on my catch can? Im going to route from PCV to catch can then back to mani, and will I need to 'hollow out' the PCV if I do it this way?

It will work directly as you described. No hollowing out of the PCV to be done. Note: Those blue hoses etc crack pretty quickly so you will want to get better hoses to withstand the heat.

You will need a breather marco ...otherwise loads if pressure wont be released, oil starts coming out the rocker gasket i would reccomend one into the catch and the other run to the ground

I am assuming a breather filter was already on the other port. Once one is there and the stock BOV is out, his Oil catch can would work. Mine has been in place like that for over 2 years.

Not necessarily as he will be "venting" one port back to the intake manifold, as it is illegal to have it vented to atmosphere.

U saying all those running race spec rocker covers with the PCV removed and a vented catch can connected to where the PCV used to be and, the rocker cover breather is illegal then?

Yes as the gasses are harmful to the environment, not that many people care. Which is why they are routed back into the inlet to be re-burned again.

My catch can only has 2 ports (assuming one is a inlet and other is a outlet), and no holes/ports for a breather. Thats why I wondered if my routing would work? PCV > catch can inlet > catch can outlet > back to Mani (where pvc would have connected to anyways). That way the gas will still be reburnt but without the oil.

this will work as you are just putting a catch can as a through valve but.... you may wanna check where inlet and outlet hose connectors bolt to the catch can and any other holes that have pierced the catch can,
as the mani draws through gasses using suction and the pcv valve if your catch can has not been sealed well it will effectivly create a leak (same as if you had a hose with a split in it )
what i did was to use plumpers tape on any threads on the catch can and made a gasket as mine opened at the top
hope this helps

Cheers russyb........out of interest what did you do with the other breather on the rocker cover?

left side breather has a 9mm breather filter on, right side breather goes to inlet on catch can
if you use this system for your catch can you need to feel around the catch can for escaping air then plug any leaks or you will have a rough idle

Cheers russyb....will check for leaks once its running. :)

a lot of people run catch cans all different ways ie race spec rockers, gutted pcv valves, vented to atmosphere, breather filter 1way catch cans, 2 way the list is endless really and as far as i can work out theres no right or wrong way as long as your not restricting either breather on the rocker as this releases pressure and allows the engine to breath better but at the same time stopping some of the sh*t reentering the engine via the catch can then its set up correctly ;)
