4efte head question

Hello, recently I’ve given my head to get built and resurfaced, and here is a picture of where the head gasket sits. Is it normal that the circles I marked in red there? 861F94EA-C862-4385-AA1A-B14A323C7FA7.jpeg
after looking at the head gasket, there’s no significant go through holes there, are they marked made from water being trapped there?

The Toyota gasket doesn't utilise those ports for some reason. Probably limits the flow of the coolant to allow heat soak but not sure if that works in my head properly.

I've seen a few aftermarket ones with the ports open.

Your's look blanked off with old gasket just, try poking them through.

Are they there on an oem head? Like are they holes? Because what my machine shop told me is that it is corrosion from water being trapped there and a head gasket leak. He’s solution is to weld material there and resurface the head

I don't have them hmm, do you think there were different versions on heads? like gt or glanza etc, late model or early model
I don't think it is an engine that was opened before so can't be a 4efe head, that's just weird

Apparently I have a 4e head hmm
Can you check the engine number so that i know if I have a 4efte block? 1937575 is the number engraved on the block

Any 4E or 5E heads I've seen have the ports.

I could be wrong but from your pic it looks like they are just caked up with the old gasket, get a screw driver and poke those shallow areas.

Once that head has been chemically cleaned all will be revealed so update with a pic.

like Jay indicated, it looked like the holes are there, just need some cleaning out

The holes I circles blue is different as well, I’ve looked on here and pictures everywhere, picture with only blue circles is 4efte and picture with red arrows 4efe, the rectangular holes aren’t the same

You could be right, I wouldn't see enough 4EFE heads to be certain. If the 4EFE terminates the cooling channel before it goes into the head it would explain why the Toyota gasket is like that. (I've always wondered because it never made sense)

Will have a look at whatever heads are lying here just for reference.

Nope, don't think anyone has.

Engine numbers don't link to the chassis from what I'm aware.

Do the oil filter flange holes look factory?

from what i'm seeing and understanding, 4efe oil filter screws right on the block whereas 4efte has the flange you talking about and is slightly to left.. right?
