A problem with my brakes

hi guys, i am having a wee niggle with my car. whenever i brake hard the handbrake light comes on. The handbrake never moves so it cant be hitting the switch that activates the handbrake light like normal, has anyone experienced this before??

This can be caused by low brake fluid levels I believe......

brake fluid was grand yestrday but i will double check it when i get out of work.

mine used to do it because my pads were worn

I used to have the same prob,then went to check the brake pads and found them to be paper thin....got new ones front and back [all of them were screaming to get thrown away] then problem resolved.

if pads are low, it will take more fluid to push them onto the disc so this is why the brake warning light comes on when pads are low.

could be other reasons why its coming on, but thats the most common one
