AEM Wideband

Hi guys,

I've been having some issues with my aem wideband kit ever since I removed the dash and replaced my heater matrix....random I know... My last sensor died after about 8 years of use, so I replaced it with a genuine one about 3 months ago.

On idle, the gauge displays as lean initially then leans out totally with 3 dashes. Then once I start driving, it randomly starts to work, then goes off again.
It seems to be an intermittent fault as sometimes it works again showing normal readings at idle and when driving, then I get 3 dashes again randomly when I take my foot off the throttle, or the car is idling.

As I said the unit is old getting on now, I'm thinking to replace it with a full new kit, or could it be a bad earth/connection somewhere?

Car runs great as normal with no issues whatsoever...so I assume its definitely, the kit that's at fault.
I do have an emanage afr harness wired in also, but the emu has not been fitted yet, so I kind of ruled that out as being the issue?

Thanks for any info.

I'm going to rip it out at the weekend and take a closer look. My alarm proximity sensors seem to have a mind of their own at the moment also, so definitely sounds like a kink loose connection issue somewhere as you said.

I'll report back with my findings. Thanks Jay

Managed to get on to this today and stripped the dash down to have a closer look.

No kinks or damage in the wiring from what I can see. I decided to created a better earth connection, but still the same issue.

At this stage, I'm beginning to think that the actual gauge or sensor could be faulty as, the gauge has constant power, but the readings are intermittent.
I replaced the sensor recently as I stated above and tested the sensor with the rag and brake cleaner test...and it appears to be working fine.

Time to buy a new aem kit maybe?

Is there not a way to re-calibrate these ?
I was thinking along the earth route too after helping a few mates out lately with bad earth points, can you put known good + - to it and see

I think you maybe able to on the Gen 2 ones man, but I have the old skool one. TBH, I've had it the best part of 7 years so maybe its just given up the ghost. However I thought with fitting the new sensor that it would have been good to go.

Quick update fellas.
Definitely the sensor that failed.
I bought a brand new Gen 2 Aem kit, this past week, so i'll be selling my old kit as a cheap spares/repairs.

Always something with these cars lol.
