Another smoke question...

Hey guy's, haven't been online in a long time. The gt been sprayed and was a the mech for quite a while etc, had it back for a few months now but been runnin around and don't get a chance to drive it much.

Anyway, the smoke question:

On idle, firstly it idles clean and normal, but then after say 2min quite a bit of white smoke starts comes out of the exhaust, I rev and a bit more smoke comes out then it clears, let it idle again fine with no smoke and then after a few minutes the smoke starts up again. No smoke on driving, even when I punch it.

I have read quite a few posts about "smoke" on the thread and ended up replacing the PCV valve, thought problem was solved but saw yesterday it still smokes after a few min idle. Somebody told me it mite be because of my exhaust, basicaly running a straight 53mm pipe from the front to the back with a gutted cat, but been runnin this for a while and wasnt a prob before. Also doesnt seem to use oil.

I'm stumped....

Certainly sounds like just condensation from your description. Unless she is using oil/water or showing other symtoms I'd generally not be too concerned?

@Jay: x2.
he did mention something interesting though; that the smoke/condensation comes and goes with changes in revs. maybe i misunderstood him but that's odd.. isn't it..

also first thought it was condensation, but even after a drive over a long stretch of lets say 100km, I stop, let it idle and after a few minutes the smoke starts, rev it a few times and the smoke is gone, idle a few min and starts again...

engine has about 140 000km on, I service regularly etc. Doesnt use oil and runs at normal temp.

as you said spacecraft...odd

white smoke on idle: conspiracy theories

here are my conspiracy theories on this so hear me out and tell me if i'm thinking right:

theory 1:
assuming a stock (or almost-stock) engine setup, his pcv could be messed up, thus only presenting the problem during idle, since that's when it would be open - allowing gas flow from the engine top-end back into the intake. when on boost (or higher revs), the pcv closes in order not to pressurize the crank case, correct. so, assuming a knackered pcv, this is a possible culprit right..? interesting bit though, is he said there is no oil-drinking so to speak.. so it's also unlikely that this really is the case.

theory 2:
cracked ringlands or perhaps a cracked piston..? only way to determine this for sure would be a compression test so it this something you can do EvilKnievel & get back to us with results..?

Hi Guy's. So, have not really had much time to give the GT some attention recently. But did put in a new pcv valve, old one was quite finished, but unfortunately did not solve the problem. Had it checked quick by a mechanic guy (who races a beautifull supra) and he say's he 100% sure it the turbo giving in. So taking it in next week so they can take it all apart and have a look. Will post a update.

i have the same problem my car smokes after a compression when i accelerate again, try to change the valve seals, is cheap and easy to do, if you continue smoking probably you ride and hybrid ct9 jeje

Turbo bud, as the engine idles a little oil gets through the turbo seals as it is turning slow and it is old.
And then when you put foot the turbo spins and gives a better seal and the oil in the housing burns away.
