BEEN A WHILE

Hi everyone,

i just been speaking to a chap with a starlet and talking about some tech stuff, got me thinking and wanted to check out something i remembered posting.

anyway having a search and looking at my build threads etc,

i forgot how much a part of my life this forum was for a long period of time. i made some good friends and had good times.

now i've got time to think about it i miss it, i feel disappointed with myself i let it all go, but life has plans for us and so mine changed, i wasn't supposed to have left the site or the scene, but something peculiar happened,

i sold my starlet to a chap who manged to blow it up the very next day having driven it 600 miles home with no issue. i'm not sure what happened, but td developments rebuilt it and i supplied the parts at cost to try and help out, in hindsight i wish i refunded him and kept the car and done a mega build (wonderful thing hindsight)

the intention was to purchase an EVO6 but after 6 months of searching they were all rust buckets.

i then done the most mightiest stupid thing ever, and whilst out for a mela and having had a couple of drinks asked the girlfriend at the time (now wife) if she wanted to get a place together.

that was it the car money was used for deposit on the house, the house then took precedent, then i thought its ok, after a year i'll get something jap again, ....... nope, i had a few drinks again and proposed.....

so we ended up with an A4, a couple of years later a little boy and another couple of years after that move to bigger house...

think everyone knows this story, i really need to keep my mouth shut in regards to life changing decisions haha, everytime i have money to get back into JDM i have a drink and open my mouth lol

tbh i wouldn't have it any other way, but i do miss the scene, i am working on getting back into it but i've come to realise its now bloody expensive to get high performance jap metal these days.

soz for the long post, hello to all, hope your well, and staying safe in the face of COVID-19.

Hi Ricky, long time no see fella!

Was actually reading one of your posts the other day and wondered where you were hiding!

I think we all took things for granted at the time but the cars were affordable, the parts plenty and the decisions were instinctive. We just went with what felt right and if you have no regrets it's worked pretty damn well mate

Looking at prices some of the stuff is mental. Fairly certain I've missed any chance of owning the Supra or RX7 I was hoping for. Should have realized it at the time but as you say the money was needed elsewhere and real life kinda took over. We might have a recession to enjoy after this so I guess you never know what could become affordable!

Good to see you post, just stay off that drink :D

Hello and welcome back!

I definitely missed the hay day and my Starlet is an absolute nail and I couldn't really call myself a Starleteer, think I done 2k miles in 6 years of ownership.

I enjoyed reading your story, really happy that you made if out the other side.

Get yourself another Starlet and chase those dreams!

Sounds really positive, looking forward to seeing more from you.

Hey buddy life gets in the way sometimes but you often find the time/money to come back. I've recently come back and would love to have some of the parts that I had in the past but we all have our reasons to move on at times.

The one I most regret selling(Japanese)was my 1987 UK spec Mazda 323 4x4 turbo  that was when my 2nd arrived, always had something jap to tinker with tho, keep me sane while the missus was running around in a 306:eek: 8 years we had that and it never gave a bother at all apart from glo plugs every winter.
The Ford list from when I was young, working flat out and single would make you weep :(

Welcome back man.
Enjoyed reading your starlet story. I'm at the other end of the spectrum. Kept my GT, spent a small fortune and always thought maybe I should have spent my funds on getting on the property ladder instead at times.
However, whenever I take it for a blast, I soon realise, I'll probably never sell her.

What was the spec of your old car? Crazy that the new owner blew it up so fast :(

Must be 14 years near now lol, it was silver with polished alloys, absolute factory spec apart from full stainless system, it came from Mazda UK, the directors wife's runabout no less

Blast from the past!
There was a great community on here and it was a big part of my life too so I know exactly what you mean.

Its funny how things go full circle though. Social media killed forums for the most part but the amount of noise on social media makes quieter and friendlier forums a bit of a novelty now.

Many of us grew up on this forum from when were just kids.

Hi guys,

Wow pretty surprised at the comments.

Spec of the old starlet was never realised, it got as far as 280hp but there was more in it, the map wasn't great. I had plans to put cams In it and was specing a new turbo that hadn't been tried before. But alas it all ended as just a pipe dream.

I would like to get back into the forum again pass on The knowledge if I can, re-aqaunt *spelling.. with friends etc.

I have a 3 year plan to get jap again (though technically I have a Nissan Almera as a daily so suppose that's jap lol)

The plan is to get a Toyota crown 3.5v6 hopefully the supercharged one. As jay said maybe the recession might help this become a reality ha ha.

I had a fright the other day the website was down and I thought oh no, I haven't had chance to say hello to people.

I'm glad the forum still quite active, I worried the other starlet forum had taken over, and hoped not as they are all kids on there.

hail sx-turbo, its been a long time
first off, after reading your story, i have to say congratulations on your choices/family...i wish you guys all the best in the future.
you can always get back to the jap cars at some point and i think the site is still a great place even with the reduced traffic----its a wealth of information, great people and far less chaotic compared to years ago as it seems to have a more mature member base now.

PS--thanks for reminding me of why i don't drink and am generally a quite person...lololol

likewise.

i wouldnt mind one for a daily.

i keep looking out for a cheap one that needs a little engine work, but that doesn't tend to happen any more, they pretty much all get broken for parts.

Good to see you popping back! I still lurk every now and then for the odd tech thread and sometimes a look through, I thought the forum had gone until I stumbled on it again and tried my old login!

Some awesome memories on here <3 always good to still see some old faces around, makes me glad I didn't sell mine lol x
