best cam size for 1.2 bar on k1?

yeah.. id go for cams with a bigger turbo.. where the powerband is much more up.

the k1 is like a blitz version of todays hybrids right?

remember that turbo is designed for responce and spool not purely topend. so any cam increase would reduce port velocities inside the engine compared to standard reducing low down torque, shifting the power band and creating more turbocharger lag.

if i did go with cams it would be a small increase, or similar duration with maybe 1mm greater lift.

so personally i wouldn't bother.

what power are you making on your k1 at the moment? stock internals and for how long? i only ask as i have the same setup running 0.9bar and thinking of going for more

its only just going on mate it is on stock internals with jam ecu and supporting mods
im gonna run it a 1.2 bar same as i ran the ct9 at .
I thought bigger cams would shift the power band higher up and its not what i want really on a k1 .
Ive got 2 ep82 ive got a vf34 _(brand new) with side exit to go on the other and a 5e block
anyway i was thinking about a k1 on a 5e what do u guys recon ?
thanks the the input guys
(ps i used to be active on the site about 6 years ago but i drifted off for a while)

your name looks familiar from the old forum

i would not really recommend you put a K1 on a 5E, its really too small for the 5E
it would become kind of a restrcition, especially at those high boost levels

yeah i wondered that after all the k1 was built for the 4e yeah seems like im heading in the right direction then i was going to forge but dont see the point ill save the money for the 5e vf34 build
the ideas to have two totaly diffrent driving starlets one more top end and the other a responsive feel
my first car is the one thats havng the k1 on and a really nice solid setup jam manifold and blitz down pipe wepr front mount and jam ecu
just thought she deserved an easy life....lol
did i read someone was talking about maxin the standard injectors out at 175 bhp??? i thought they were good for 200 poneys ive got some pink ones that are 310cc will they run on a jam ecu??
The help is great guys tbh ive forgotten alot of standard stuff bit gutted about cams tho i always wanted that lumpy idle you get with massive cams lol
ordered a load of parts to finish the set up so shouldnt be too far off really aim is to have it back on the road in january last time was 2006 lol

heres how she looked in 2007

yeah that was me, i maxed my stock injectors out at 175bhp at 0.9bar on the k1. thats running a safe maximum but wouldn't go any higher. that was on stock fuel fuel pressure but with a walbro pump. going to sort the regulator out and new filter just incase there is a drop anywhere but also throw some 370cc in there to do it.

i doubt the jam would be able to control the bigger injectors because all those ecu's are are very overpriced chipped units. they take a starlet into there workshop, put the basic mods on there map it to get an improvement then mass produce an eprom chip. its not ideal, not setup for out grade of fuel and a bit of acop out if you ask me. This is why i went with something a bit better like the power fc where i can map it to my individual car. this will give better and safer results.

yeah i understand that and will be goin down the standalone route but the apexi also seems a little expensive its in a new motec price range for a old unit .
very interested to see how you progress with the k1 the guy i got my first starlet off had a k1 ep82 he reconed it was 250 bhp a little over what i think its capabilties are but it was one hell of a ride it was a white one from dewbury back in 2004 sold for 7500 pound back then
ive been in high powered starlets but that ride stands out as one of the best setup it pulled like a train and was straight on the power no lag
let me know if you have any break thru's and thanks for all you help once again simon

250bhp out of a K1 seems a bit much

if you want a responsive 5E, try a td04l on it, its a fun daily drive

it feels basically the same way as a ct9 hybrid on a 4e

if you want torque and responce then the 5e with the K1 would definitly give that. tune it like a rally car with high boost pressure with the small turbo. limit RPM to 6k and you'd be fine.

this is how the WRC gt4's are getting 300bhp but 500ft/lbs from ct26 turbos

I bought the EP82 Blitz K1 from Dewbury (or Dewsbury?)!!

OMG ! I brought a White Zep kitted, twin headlight, K1 EP82 from the guy at Dewbury (or Dewsbury I can't remember now) around 6 yrs ago! (John-Paul and his family - his dad is involved in importing all sorts, he had a few elgrandes and a 5E sera when I went down)! The spec back then was basically Blitz FMIC / GReddy Emanage Blue / GReddy E-01 Boost Controller / Defi Gauges / 8mm Magnecores / Uprated Fuel Pump / Blitz K1 / Blitz Decat / GReddy Oil Cooler & Filter Relocation Kit / Blitz BOV / Zep Racing Body Kit / Cusco Zero-1s / Grooved Discs / Kazz LSD / Recaro Interior / Ogura ORC Twin Plate / Razo Short Shifter. It was running 1.2 Bar on standard internals (he said that they were forged but no such luck), I remember him saying cams were his next purchase(?), he said he could get them cheap from Japland. It was running standard cams and it was around 215BHP ATW. Super fast spool up - near enough full boost by 3500rpm - I paid £5250 for it if I remember right, I ended up spending more staying in a hotel down there waiting for the funds to clear - I ended up reserving it and went down a week later on the train it was so unmissable! Great car, still spending money on it now - loving it - Desperately Waiting For a remap! :) I may get the K1 kit re-con'd and sell it next year. Also have a spare ceramic coated K26 kit and my current kit the monsterous GT28R!

Has anyone heard from the guy recently?

Cheers
Pete

how long you been running that k1 at 1.2bar for on stock internals?

really tempted now to run mine at 1.2bar after all its not a huge amount of boost

Tim :)

its really not advisable to run the small ct9/k1/hybrid-ct9 on the 5E at high boost pressure
its been reported that the ct9 turbine housing becomes a major restriction

when guys use a ct9 on a 5E, its generally just for a short period till they get a better set up

even then, the boost is usually kept low....maybe around 10/12psi at most

i think finx runs his ct9 and 5E to good effect on the 1/4 mile though

thats the guy he's called stan he imported mine if you got that car mate then you got the best starlet ive ever been in it was A1 he wanted 7500 at the time ..
last i heard he moved on to somthing bigger his son was into starlets too and they had a little tuning shop.
yeah 5e rapid responce is what i was thinking but these k1 units are so expensive running high boost is abit of a killer .
Im gonna run 1.2 bar should be fine.

Oh and also i didnt think that starlet from dewsbury was forged i remember talking to him and it just didnt make sense what he was claiming still a very nice car tho

thing is i think everyone looks at a 5e conversion as an excuse to make big power. has anyone thought about just keeping it to 200bhp like the k1 was designed for but using the extra 200cc to make extra torque and instant spool instead?

not using it for a power monster but for responce?

Tim :)
