best handling setup to suit wet/dry road conditions.

hi guys...i'd be very grateful if you all could guide me with a good setup to improve my handling, for yesterday i almost crashed, while driving in wet road conditions. I wasn't going fast, yet the car spins and loses control...i live in the mountains, and that happens while driving up-hill as well as downhill.

i live in the tropics, where almost everyday is hot, dry and sunny...so here is my actual handling setup:

- D&D (Drag and Drift) adjustable coilover kit, with 40 adjustable points of stiffness.
- Standard front stabilizer bar.
- Standard strut tower bar.
- Standard brake disc, with standard brake pads on both front and rear.
- 16" GTRsports rims.
- 16/205/45 FEDERAL EVO 595 (semi-slick) tires, with 29PSI at both front and rear.

would really like a setup that would suit both dry and wet conditions, for my GT is a daily driven car, to go to work and stuff.

what are the roads like? those drag and drift coilovers are likely too hard so will give poor road handling on uneven roads.

i think your problem is the tires. you need to get some more suited to wet conditions.

x2 Have a different setup now but when on 205's my approach was to choose Tyres that had an exceptionally good wet weather testing report ( Kumo ). That meant it was good in the wet and the dry looked after itself as I had more rubber than I needed.

we have very winding roads here, and uneven at some places, but quite good for driffting actually.

Rev...i wanted to get a set of kumos when planning this project, but we didn't have it in the country back then, will see if they have it nowadays...

Change your tire setup. Experiment with a few and see.. & of course, change your driving style to suit the conditions at hand..

i think i'll try a different tire setup, either toyo R1R or khumo whichever one i come across first...where as my driving style, i like to rev match, some slight heal and toe techniques, and lots of racing line and braking line applied. Usually it handles pretty good throughout the winding roads...

Would 15" not help better with fast road setup?

been thinking about it, cuz when i launch the car on 16", i've noticed the response are kinda slow, compared to when i used to run on 13" (after i just had the engine fitted), some may say 13 are too small but beleive it or not, i remember whooping a levin with 4age blacktop on my first test run that same day... anyway, the 16" does handle damn well through corners...would love to try a set of 15" x 7.5"/8" on Toyo R1R, what do ya'll think?

I found 15's with 7.5 width a spot on choice for me. Never had a problem with Yoko Parada spec 2's on them as well but never tried Toyo R1R's as mentioned above

Toyo R1R is suppose to be the best for wet/dry roads, and it may last for quite a while, depending on your driving style, it's definitely worth a try...

How is the wear on the Yokohama Parada spec 2, does it last long?...

i guess 7.5 sounds legit enough...

R1R not equivilent to an parada spec 2 etc

R1R is like a road going race tyre.

that like asking how long is a banana.

you will have to get a price in your country mate. seychelles is a world away from the UK.

just asking, so i can convert the currency and get a brief idea of how much it would cost to import it, cuz sadly we don't have those here in Seychelles...:(

about £70 per tire for 195/50/15

about £100 per tire for 205/45/16

just need to find a place that will send them to you, but it wont be cheap!

I noticed that Toyo Proxes R1R has a design very close to the R888 but some people say it has better tread rating compared to R888 and RA1's. Did you manage to pick R1R for your car or you bought something else?
