boost/power problem

well,my starlet has developed a serious problem when coming on boost,
it makes loads of noise but doesn't go anywhere!
it has a blitz turbo timer/boost gauge which reads in kg/cm2
when i spools up in 1st and 2nd it seemsOK, but 3,4,5 an it hits fuelcut(this is around .95 kg/cm2 on the blitz unit) and there is alot of hesitation as in seems slower on full throttle than half
i hav fitted hks actuator and a standard airbox
it has the cat gutted and a full 3" system(no boxes)
i'm thinkin its compression or the turbo
i've checked timing,boost leaks,and changed the plugs
does any one hav any ideas??:(

I see 2 Possibilities.

The 1st you've already mentioned in your post. Fuel Cut. If you don't have an FCD (Fuel Cut Defender/Defencer) or aftermarket ECU then you will hit fuel cut at (iirc) 12.5psi.

The 2nd option could be that if you are running higher boost without the relevent fueling mods the she is likely to be detting her tits off causing the shit running.

Either way, I'd turn your boost down until you find out what the exact problem is

it was doing this with the standard actuator, now after fitting the hks one turning it down just makes it slow to spool up but will still go over bost in 3rd i just want the car to have standard power and standard boost!

well untill it is sorted i certainly would not boot it. but is the car boostin then very suddenly cuttin back with a very sudden jolt? if so its fuel cut, but if it is judderin then there is somethin more serious happenin with your set up. get it all checked over, check the fuelling and the rest. saves making more damage to the engine.

dude get it on the rollers sounds like theres somethin up with your setup !

expecially if its hitting fuel cut all the time less boost might sort the problem

Agreed. The high flow exhaust may be promoting boost creep as well...I would do a search for exhaust related treads on the old site and see what issues other had at that size, if any.

Forget the exhaust comment, your problem is just strange. The only time I had anything even close to those symptoms was when the map sensor was acting up, but there was no fuel cut, just juddering and hesitation under full throttle.

you need to introduce some restriction into your exhaust, it's too freeflowing and allowing the turbo to overboost.

are you sure your hitting fuel cut? i know on a ep91 the engine management light will come on if you hit fuel cut, i had a problem very much like this and turned out to be the spark plug gaps were huge and it was blowing the spark out, so could be plugs or rotor arm and cap or even your coil getting weak and not fuel cut at all?
