depends how you drive the car and what you do with it, if you do alot of track days or tend to be heavy on the brakes i recommend 5.1 brakes fluid, but if you just drive around normally and are easy on the brakes just go for a decent dot 4

Well be using everday but occasional trackdays eventually. No problem changing it often just a pain in the arsewhen you don't have a garage and 4 axel stands! thanks for all replies I know dot 5.1 will probably be what I go for but anyone tried owt else any of the race stuff?

I've used 5.1, done one track day and probably the best part of 2000 miles and the brakes have had some hard use. The pedal feels a bit soft now and the grooves on the disks make more noise on the pads now under heavy braking, so I'm thinking about flushing the system again with some new fluid.

I'm sure I read somewhere that 5.1 ruins the rubber seals in Toyota systems and DOT4 is better, could be wrong though...

Yeah Monkfish thats also what I read but quite a lot of people have told me to use 5.1!! I'll see what 5.1 is like changed it today pedal is strong but doesn't seem to give the brakes much strength! see what they're like ater a week of driving... Then if its Ok I'l see about going to Trax:)

it wont give the brakes ANY strength the only difference as you get higher up the DOT it will mean the fluid can get hotter without boiling and causing brake fade.

Right, you only need 5.1 if you can boil DOT 4, but in stock trim and even if you run on a track, you won't need it if you du 1 or 2 cool down laps before you stop the car.
