C161/162, how weak are they actually?

Wanted to 6 speed swap for a while.

Car was 6 speed for around 30 seconds in total on the ramp until I took it back out as the box I'd been sold had bad diff/final drive bearings.

With the plan being to turbo the car, I've been told the 6 speed isn't the way to go. But how weak are they actually?

Also, whilst in the air, I ran through all the gears to decide if it was diff bearings, I seem to remember struggling getting gears as the gates/gaps in between were really narrow. Any tips to combat the if it's the path I eventually choose.

For context, the car will be a daily and it won't be running mad boost. Id be happy at around the 150BHP mark.

They are indeed a bit weaker, but the c160 copes with 162nm stocks so should at least be able to cope with 200nm. launches etc probably arn't well received by these boxes I would imagine.

I've been trying to get a c60 gearbox hybrid fitted to the 4efte, but haven't been lucky since I not able to source a c60 yet for a good price. Maybe you have seen a few post about it before, most likely @Sam44 has mentioned it before.

But the c16* will be much easier to fit and if you aren't getting a worn box it should work and last for a bit certainly if it is a c160 gearbox.

Are the c160 out of the levin corollas with some having optional factory helical LSD? Think there was a lad selling one in Ireland if your in Facebook mate.

It wouldn't be getting launched alot, It's more the fact I've read how much faster it gets you off the corners in the middle of 3rd as opposed to the top of second/bottom of third like mine now. Thats what interests me.

It was Sam that mentioned 6 speed swapping to me initially. A few people have said it's got good benafits so I figured I'd give it a try.

I think Timothy Bill (TB Developments) has mentioned building a custom stronger 6speed for the glanza, again if your on Facebook. Think it's the c161 I'm looking at specifically though.

All Toyota gearbags of this vintage turn to chocolate inside after time unfortunately, I've smashed and cracked enough celica boxes in my days :(

I think it's going to get done. Theyre not 0-60 cars so it won't be getting launched. If it goes, I can always use my standard 5 speed
Oh, and Tim Bell is a wanker :)
I bought my coilovers off him as at the time he had a sale on and they were just over 100quid cheap than everywhere else. How come you don't like him? Is the advice to steer clear lad?

get yourself a nice Dominoes™ Garlic bread, and leave it outside for about a month in the sun, then, take said breadstick, and apply 150nm of torque to it, you can see where this is going.

to my knowledge the only Gearbox to outright take 300hp or so, is the c52 in good condition, and even so, its a lottery, it will eventually fail depending on shifting style, and driving habits, clutch type as well,

shockloads and good tyres with or without an lsd, really hurts them.

Thankyou for the advice mate. I get what you mean. Luck of the draw really I suppose
