Swap the battery for a good one just in case.

That ECU lamp should be coming on buddy, strange one.

When you say the starter connection was different what do you mean? I know there was a change in starters and the connector was changed from round to oval/oval to round at some stage.

yeah the engine management light wont come on with the ignition atal!!
one of the connections (the one that clips in) to the starter motor was different, but that was no big deal!thers deffo power goin to the starter,i just checked and blew the altenator fuse!?
im stumped!!
any ideas why the engine light wont come on?alarm maybe?but it seems to be working ok?

When you say you replaced the loom, do you mean the complete engine loom that runs from the fusebox, all around the engine bay and into the cockpit in 2 places?

Where did the loom come from and did it look like there was any damage?

The way you described the starting problem sounds like a flat battery as Jay said, I would try a new battery in there as sometimes they look good and volts are good but as soon as you ask them to perform they wont.

The only other things I can think of off the top of my head is earths around the engine bay, and if you have the old loom there still, check the plugs at the fusebox, the square one, to see if the pins have wires in the same places, and check the plugs at the ecu as well.

Is the e manage a piggy back or standalone, did the toyota ecu plugs need to be cut off to fit it?

yep i replaced the whole engine bay loom, the one you described...

the only earths i have had to take off is the one at the intake mani, and that went on with the new loom.

the loom should be spot on it was only takin out of a 94 the day i got it!i will have a look at the connections going to the fuse box and see if there is any difference

no,im using a power fc,so i still use the plugs..thanks:)

but i still dont understand why the engine management light wont come one when i put on the ignition!!!!:homer:

ive just noticed one of the plugs goin into the fusebox is different!so i think i should look out for a 95 loom instead of using the 94 one,i didnt think ther would be muc difference in them, but hey,it may solve it if i get a 95 loom?

if anyone has any looms around let me know!!

Take your origonal loom with you when you are looking for another one, or trace the wires out on the 2 looms and see what the differences are, it might be easy to change.

Come see me buddy, bring your old loom and your fresh one too.

I have a 1995 one we can compare it to. No promises but I sometimes stumble upon answers. If not I'll do the usual and send you Wee John's direction..:D

Teamwork again Jay, I am off on holidays on the 19th to the 25th, but if you do get it, there is a row of earths (brown with white) connected into what looks like a plug but is just a strip of connections to join them all together, around the ecu area.
Have a look to see if it still links up with the new loom.

was up at jays today(thankin you!)
and got a loom off him, fitted it in and i got my engine management light and pump working:)
but when i went to start it,the starter would just click,so i fired it down a hill and it still wouldnt go:homer:
towed it back to my house and it turned over but wouldnt fire(the starter clicked again)so i gave up..lol
when i sent it down the hill tho it backfired,so that must mean there is a spark?
i know the starter must be seized or somthing, but could the car be flooded??thanks..
