Cheap distributor cap for 4EFTE

Hi members.
Iv'e seen that this is a problem to get sometimes.
A cheap alternative is to use a Toyota Hilux point and condenser cap.
It is 80s model. 2Y/3Y/4Y
You just need to slot one of the holes that hold the cap to the distributor.
The locating slots are an identical match. It is the same cap as the 4EFTE.

But starlets have a few kinds of caps clip and boot !
I'd feel more confident with an original especially of ur running big power
Price of ur cap and arm ?

Im very interested in this!

I need a new cap as I have just converted to 4EFTE Starlet Life. Toyota need 3weeks to order me a 4EFTE cap from japan. I will look into the Hlux Cap.

Can U give us anymore info? Hilux model, year, code, part number or pictures please?

I can not remember the exact model. Just take your cap to a good parts store and tell the you want to see the Toyota Y series engine caps and compare them :)

Awesome thanks heaps Skalabala!

I will do that.

Can you confirm that you have used this type of cap yourself and it works?

Cheers :D

This is my distributor cap and rotor.
The pic is a bit fuzzy but you can see the centre of cap (main spark wire) is worn right down, not even touching the rotor.

My motor runs fine but is idleing super low and switching off or staying at 300rpm.. I want to replace the cap at least before tackling idle issue elsewhere.

I just finished a 4EFTE Turbo conversion in my Starlet EP91. Massive power and speed increase lol :D
Just sorting final points.

Glad to be of help. If I were you I would go 60-2!
No rotor cost, easy to get HT leads and use multi coils or even pencil coil! Get it mapped by a reputable tuner :)

Hmm..
I have no idea what 600-2 is : /

Please excuse my ignorance. Is that some sort of multi-coil ignition trigger system? ..or some other Toyota factory parts from something?

Getting rid of the distributer like you have sounds like a good idea.

It is a 60-2 trigger wheel.
Here by me it costs R170 for the wheel and R170 for the sensor :)
A rotor is R600... Pencil coils are free :p
