Clunk/Thump over very minor bumps

Hi Guys,

Question, I'm getting the car aligned next week but there is one issue I cant seem to solve. I recently put in yellow speed coilovers on, which work great but on the left back I keep getting clunks/thumps on gaps/bumps in the road which are not even 1 inch high.
On the outside the coilover seems fine, checked everything a few times now but the clunk remains. I have no clue what else to try (Adjusted total height up and down a few cm, spring rate and damp settings + top nut fastened a bit tighter but no different results)

So my question is, could this be because of the standard panhard? Its the standard one, maybe that doesnt agree?

Hope to hear some thoughts!

Most likely it is because off the stock panhard rod. You have to get a adjustment one when lowering the starlets

That could be the case but if the coilovers are on the stock height or at least the same height as before, the issue shouldn't be there?

It is pretty hard to pinpoint the exact issue with just a fugue description of the sound, could be anything really. Maybe the coilover has lost all it's gas and only the oil remains. have you tried pressing in the coilover while the spring isn't under tensions and see if the shock has any rebound?

As said above. These noises are always difficult to diagnose over the internet...annoyingly.

Did you by the coilovers brand new?

The coilovers are brand new.

I assume its the panhard rod then as I cant think of anything else at this point. Any tips on which one is a good replacement? As in brand/type?

Get on to Jay on this site, he might know where to get a cosco one.in my opinion the cusco is the best one by far

I would be really suprised if it was the panhard rod. I've had a couple of GTs over the years dropped quite low on coliovers, prior to fitting a panhard rod and never had any issues.
My bet would be that something is loose or a bush has perished.

Either way, an adjustable panhard rod is a good investment based on your current setup.

Update/possible problem:

I currently own this glanza, seems the issue is no gas pressure in the rear shocks, once pressed in they do not rebound. Not sure why this results in knocking yet, by the looks of it they do have oil in them, rebound adjustment works fine and now sound of air bubbles/cavitation inside.

Seems to be a faulty batch depending on if filling them with nitrogen again will sort the issue. Could be they forgot to fill them in chinatown. No leaks or signs underneath the shock of losing gas pressure(for example the warranty sticker is still intact not bubbled etc due to gas leaking). Everything else seems to be completely fine and the set is still brand new.

Readjusting height so the front is a bit lower than the rear seem to have reduced the knocking quite a bit.

it seems your rear shocks are dead...when depressed they should slowly rise up on their own merit...the knocking could be internal to the shock--pistons, valve, shims....or something external, shock mount/bushings, preload/spring seating to the adjustable collars, bolts need tightening..---the shocks seem to be the likely culprit at the moment .

, ,,it could even be something else in the surrounding area unrelated to the shock such as the panhard rod bushings, exhaust piping, rear axle bushings, etc...try to jack and securely prop it up, to get all weight off the rear and see if anything shakes/rattles by hand

Suspensionwise everything is checked same with the coilovers preload on the springs has been set again. No play anywhere. Bushing etc still look pretty new actually.

Also have a set of buddyclub rear shocks which are fine and rise on there own can swap them in see if that sorts anything. I'll be getting the shocks recharged and see if it's of any use. Guess without gas they do not dampen small bumps, lager bumps actually don't really do to much noise wise.
